Notes from behind the wheel of a VX220 Turbo. Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the badge. Monday, 19 May 2008. Latest addition to the camp is a set of Mintex 1144 pads from Camskill. I was getting a bit concerned about the standard of the OEM pads and their performance under heavy braking, so I decided to go for a set of M1144s to tighten things up a little. Improved. Today was one of those crisp days when the skies were perfectly blue; the temperature was moderately warm and it really did feel like the last sunshine we might get before the long, dark descent into winter. I thought it would be an appropriate time to pop the top off the car and go for a long drive. Thursday, 8 November 2007. This little blighter should sort the problem out.

Not having done it before, I was a little apprehensive because although the Z20LET is used in many Vauxhall vehicles, access is considerably easier when the engine is front-mounted! I would highly recommend this as it's £15 to join and I've made the money back already through the card).

Slightly more serious are the fact that the front tensioner cable on the soft top has snapped. I didn't thoroughly inspect the soft top before purchasing which I should have done, but it's gone and needs fixing. The atrocious weather means I haven't been able to get the car out at all, which is where 'Old Faithful', or the Peugeot 306DT that my other half kindly donated to me, comes in. My garage has also been leaking, so I had to get the roof repaired before I could even think of working on the car.

That obstacle out of the way, I removed the plugs (which, as guessed, were rusty and sopping wet), dried the wells off with a hairdryer and fitted the new ones.
