Cockatiel Chaos: June 2009
http://cockatielchaos.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Pet birds and birding. Sunday, June 28, 2009. California has a variety of different gulls. Identifying them is further complicated by the different feather patterns exhibited by the young seagulls. California gulls are everywhere. They're at the beach, in the parking lots, they've very adaptable to human environments. This is an adult California gull. Note the white spots on the tips of his primaries. They have yellow beaks with a red spot. He looked really nice against the waves. Links to this post.

In Japara's backyard: March 2015
http://japaralodge.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 1 March 2015. Late yesterday afternoon we had a pair of Glossy Black Cockatoos fly in for a feed on the ripe seed cones of one of the Forest She Oaks Allocasuarina torulosa. In the woodland adjoining our orchard. I am unsure if it is a male and female pair of two males as the female has some yellow markings which were not evident on either of the birds although there was colour variation between them. In Japara's backyard: Swift rescue
http://japaralodge.blogspot.com/2015/06/swift-rescue.html
Monday, 1 June 2015. Last night a fluttering and knocking against a window alerted me to a moth caught in a spider web and it looked far too big for the tiny spider in whose nest it was caught. It needed rescuing and I wanted a photo, so it was a win, win outcome. After cleaning some web off its antennae I brought it inside for some photos before releasing. I haven't found any identification references that show the exact patterning but the closest was one of the Swift Moth family Oxycanus rufescens.

Sandy Straits and Beyond: April 2015
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Monday, April 27, 2015. Even under the mangroves the reflections were nearly perfect. I stayed well out from the roost where I expected to find shorebirds and then sat sill on the kayak and let myself gradually drift in closer. When I do this the birds allow a much closer approach than if I paddle in with paddles flashing in the sunlight. Of course the Pied Oystercatchers were there and reflected in the still water. Several more photos of the Little Egrets made a great finish to...

My observations of the bird life in the Gippsland area. Saturday, 18 July 2015. Looking for a Fox. Last week of the school holidays my 9 YO grand daughter LuLu who is a permanent resident with my wife and I said she was bored; which is pretty normal for this generation. Said she wanted to see a fox, I said we could go and look for one but it would be luck if we say one. There was also a nice reflection on the lagoon so another photo was taken. Even though there was no fox she was happy to take some photos.

Pearsondale Birder.: September 2014
http://pearsondale.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
My observations of the bird life in the Gippsland area. Wednesday, 17 September 2014. Last Monday the Heyfield Bird watchers hosted a day out with some members of Bird Life Australia East Gippsland Branch. Members from Bairnsdale and District. We had nineteen individuals for the day. Our first stop was Maffra Riverside Reserve, a very small area. At the end of our walk we had ticked off 28 species. The photo of the Swift Parrots is not that good as they were a long distance away.
