I harvest my own reed cane (Arundo Donax) from several areas in the South of France where it grows wild along river banks, ditches, field boundaries. This allows me to select cane of suitable softness and diameter for the chanter, drones and regulators of my uilleann and pastoral pipes. I also use local grown elder for the drone and chanter reeds for the pastoral pipes.

The following pages in this section cover the different styles that I use for my chanters. The bores and tone hole matrix remains the same and the chanters only differ in external design. All are based on historical models including some more unusual designs such as an example by MacGregor (London 1810-20) for a double chanter where one bore is the chanter and the other a regulator.

Although a set comprising chanter, 3 drones and three regulators is classed as a full set I quite often build sets with extra drones and regulators to suit customers specific requirements. Travelling by air with Uilleann Pipes can be a problem as that their length often prohibits having them in the cabin and there invariably are put in an un-pressurised hold. One alternative is to remove the reeds (always risky) and carry them on board while the instrument is surrendered to the care of the baggage handlers and storage in the hold or book an extra seat for the instrument. The standard mainstocks we supply are hollow mainstocks made from ebony. The leather used for the bag and bellows is first quality chromeless medical leather.
