Geneseo First United Methodist Church. Leading Toward a Jesus-Focused Church. SHOULD THE UMC HAVE TWO JURISDICTIONS OR SIX? Date: January 31, 2015. I recently released legislation for the Restore and Release Plan (R&R). A six-jurisdiction version of my earlier proposal. For the future of The United Methodist Church. Both jurisdictional solutions create a compartment for those who cannot abide by the current language in our. I drafted a framework for a two-jurisdiction approach. It is egalitarian and fair.

Thursday, May 15, 2014. The Appointment Game, the Coming Schism in the United Methodist Church, and How This May Effect UM Pastors. No sermon to put together this week - Charlie Dray and youth ministry are taking charge this Sunday - so I'd thought I'd just blog. You know. for old times sake.). This appointment season has been the strangest for me in many a year. and I'm not even moving. It's been strange for two reasons:. But here in the good 'ol Midwest, the situation is more complicated. I'd gathe...

Saturday, February 22, 2014. Blessed Are the Peacemakers. But that didn't stop the bullying. Just made it worse. Thanks for nothing Dad. And so one day, Tim and Fritz, in full safety patrol regalia, escorted me around the building, and when we hit that long blind sidewalk, you can imagine David Bentley's surprise when he saw the three of us. The two patrols explained to David that he was scaring me, that I wanted it to stop, and in the interest of safety he should leave me alone. I wish we could just sen...

Saturday, May 25, 2013. Tomorrow, in Gettysburg, there will once again be a memorial service at the national cemetery at which President Lincoln spoke so eloquently during it's consecration. Two minutes the Gettysburg Address lasted. Lincoln thought it was a failure and the words would be lost to obscurity. How many of you had to memorize it when you were in school? I know I did. Probably the most famous two minute speech ever given. And what a faith it is! Do you love what Jesus loves? Hebrews though gi...

Friday, January 30, 2015. Bill Croy - Three Personal Memories. Bill left either at the end of my eighth or ninth grade year (I really don't remember), but as a United Methodist Elder ordained in 1995, I was able to stay in touch with him. I got the gift of not only having him as a pastor, but then a mentor, and ultimately a great friend. In any event, here are three (of many) memories I have of Bill. Memory One: Death By Green Bus. This was the early eighties - or as I like to think of it, the era of the...

Can the General Conference Make Reliable Moral Decisions? | David F. Watson

David F. Watson. Musings and whatnot…. Can the General Conference Make Reliable Moral Decisions? May 19, 2015. Much of the talk in the UMC these days has to do with how we will govern ourselves. Will we stay with a more centralized polity located in a single General Conference? Will we become more congregational in polity? Will we eliminate the General Conference altogether and divide up into smaller bodies of like-minded communities? Can any solution hold together the disparate voices of our church?
