Sandpiper's Thoughts: A Fruitful Faith
http://sandpipersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-fruitful-faith.html
Tuesday, June 02, 2015. I taught Bible Study on Sunday evening. The lesson was based on grace. It seems that people can accept that grace is a free gift, but then get stuck in James' writing: "Faith without works is dead.". What does this mean? Does it mean that we really MUST do good works to earn salvation? Does God really count the "stars in our crowns? Or are we missing an important link? Posted by Kim at 10:08 AM. Sandpiper's Thoughts: Both/And Faith
http://sandpipersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/06/bothand-faith.html
Monday, June 08, 2015. A paragraph from Adam Hamilton's book, Revival. Do you have a "both/and" faith? Do you recognize the importance of both a personal walk with Christ and a gospel that is lived out by good works? Do you seek to love God with your mind, your heart, and your strength? Does your faith reflect both sides of the gospel? Do we grow in holiness and yet ignore the hungry? Do we visit the sick and yet have no relationship with God? What is your weaker side? Posted by Kim at 9:04 AM. When the ...

Advent Devotional: Devotional 12-24-14
http://jmadvent.blogspot.com/2014/12/devotional-12-24-14.html
Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Isaiah 9:2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness on them light has shined. Have you ever heard the expression “the darkest hour is just before the dawn”? In our own lives, we tend to avoid darkness. When the electricity goes out, we look for flashlights and candles. Darkness deprives us of one of our most prominent senses, the ability to see what is around us. But light ...

Advent Devotional: Devotional 12-15-14
http://jmadvent.blogspot.com/2014/12/devotional-12-15-14.html
Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Monday, December 15, 2014. Please read Luke 1, vs. 26-38. What a wonderful acceptance Mary has. I hope that I would be eager to obey something that would change my life this much. I’m afraid I would not. I would have all kinds of excuses for why I couldn’t do what I was supposed to do. I’d be too tired, too busy, too old, too ,too, too. This Advent Season let us remember to. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,. What a glory He sheds on our way!

Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Monday, December 08, 2014. A Checklist, Prayer, and Promise. Lists are big deals this time of year. I am finding the older I get the more a list helps me. The value of a number 2 Ticonderoga and a scratch pad is a thousand times more valuable than my diminishing memory capacity. Running out of “gigs” quickly. In this scripture for today we find a very helpful list of things it might be helpful to do every day. Give thanks in every situation. Merry Christmas to all.

Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Thursday, December 11, 2014. Hear the Good News. Read: Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11, Psalm 126, Luke 1:46b-55, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24, John 1:6-8, 19-28. This is the third week of Advent, the third week of the new Liturgical year. As we read the various texts for this week we can see a theme emerging of “Good News”! How do we do this at Johnson Memorial? We support our Backpack Ministry, Common Grounds, Jim Ray Fund. The Cridlin Food Pantry, City Mission, Ebenezer Co...

Sandpiper's Thoughts: The Via Media
http://sandpipersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-via-media.html
Monday, May 11, 2015. I'm reading Adam Hamilton's book, Revival. I taught Sunday school last weekend, and the lesson touched on the troubling problem of Church division - from arguments in the church whether about when to wash the tablecloths to how to be inclusive of all of God's children. How do we avoid the division and strife that these arguments can create, while at the same time not ignoring challenging theological issues that need to be addressed? Do we find the truth each person possesses? Advent...

Advent Devotional: December 2014
http://jmadvent.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Thursday, December 25, 2014. In a noisy cave. In the heat of the night. Amid worry and grime,. Crowds and farm animals,. Hope was born into the world. After accusations of unfaithfulness,. Following the threat of death by stoning,. At the end of a long journey. Forced by a foreign government. Hope was born into the world. To parents who did not expect. That their lives would be turned upside down. To a world that ached with readiness. Hope was born into the world.
