Thursday, June 29, 2006. Posted by MK @ 5:57 PM. Wednesday, June 28, 2006. I've noticed that there are US soccer fans who seem to have a mindset (and I know this because I'm one of them) that because we're a developing soccer country, that each successive 'generation' of players will be better than the previous. While I think this is potentially correct overall, it doesn't work when reduced to specific players. Posted by MK @ 1:23 PM. There are 2 things often written or said about this World Cup:. Report...

Wednesday, May 31, 2006. 2010: South African Odyssey. A fellow Jewish soccer fan asked me today if there were any Jewish players on the 2006 team. Unlike 2002, there are none (no Agoos), and only one whose name sounds Jewish (Wolff, no Friedel). I did mention that by 2010, we might see young Benny Feilhaber. Got me thinking a little, that while I have no idea if 2010 will be the US's BEST World Cup team, that it will undoubtedly be our most anticipated team, from the obsessed fan POV. Of course I have...

Wherein DF travels to the land of Malbec and Maradona, of Peron and the Pampas, of Tango and Cash. Monday, June 27, 2011. Observationalismo: amusing Argentine signs and unrelated Porteno facts. Which was my first experience of what appears to be the Argentine swear du jour. Speaking of pets, it took me a while to figure out what's weird about this sign, then I got it- it's in English! No idea why they didn't say "Lavadero de perros.". You couldn't have spent public funds on a damned Wii? You can barely s...

The trip to the bottom also afforded the chance to explore the creekbed, and a nearby waterfall that provided...Besid...

DF in Argentina: Two views of la Boca

Wherein DF travels to the land of Malbec and Maradona, of Peron and the Pampas, of Tango and Cash. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Two views of la Boca. After visiting la Bombonera in la Boca on Sat, I walked south toward el Caminito and the port, which are the other two heavily visited sites in the area. Then, at the bottom of El C where it meets the unutterably scuzzy Riachuelo are two outstanding museums, and this comes from a guy who does not like museums all that much. One is Proa (referring to the prow...
