2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: Fain would I be eaten
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2012/01/fain-would-i-be-eaten.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Friday, January 20, 2012. Fain would I be eaten. I enjoyed last night's rehearsal far more than last week's, because it involved singing The Hymn of Jesus. For a large part of it, a bit of Beethoven, and no Elgar (I've listened to The Apostles. All the way through now, and I can't see myself becoming unbored with it any time soon! Different - just the underlay of the words - but I don't think I'll ever remember to do the new version! This performance took place in the RNC...

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: Prestississississimo
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2012/05/prestississississimo.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Monday, May 28, 2012. I told Paul Brennan, on Thursday night before Beethoven 9, that I was planning to finally update my blog on Friday, so I feel a bit guilty that it's now Monday morning and I'm only just getting round to it. But, better late than never! Before I forget: it's Whit Friday this week (1st June), so in a minute I plan to repost my article about it (it's five years old so I've updated it slightly). Did you all hear the news about our friend Petroc Trelawney.

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: Let me entertain you
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2012/06/let-me-entertain-you.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Thursday, June 07, 2012. Let me entertain you. Did you watch the Jubilee concert. I watched all the Jubilee coverage over the four days, but I didn't attempt to see any of it live - the commentators on such things always annoy me far too much, so I usually record them and watch them on fast forward. But I watched more of the concert than I did any of the other events (because there was less commentary! And really enjoyed most of it. That would be the best bit! Actually, I...

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: Goodbye Piccadilly, farewell Leicester Square
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2012/01/goodbye-piccadilly-farewell-leicester.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Monday, January 30, 2012. Goodbye Piccadilly, farewell Leicester Square. More Holst and Elgar this week. The Holst is as fabulous as ever, and I wish it was that. Have lost the will to live if we'd had the only non-funereal bit taken from us! I have all sorts of other singing going on at the moment, but I'm in a hurry so maybe I'll tell you about that next time. I mainly wanted to post before my collection of links got out of hand again! Neither did I until recently!

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: July 2012
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Wednesday, July 25, 2012. With the sweetest burst of melody I know. it's the piccolo. For concerts like this, let alone that it makes a good finale! Actually, I feel that my main contribution towards this concert has been alerting some of my friends to the existence of the Foreskin Chorus, which I was surprised to find they'd never heard of…. Reveals that they couldn't get the rights! The Olympics are just about upon us too, but I'm almost as unexcited about them. (I ...

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: November 2011
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Sunday, November 06, 2011. The chance of the note being right is MASSIVELY high. The Harmonium gig went pretty well last night. It wasn't perfect, but it was probably the best we'd done it. The sopranos' tuning was much better, no-one got lost at any point (at least, that I noticed) and the altos were unbelievably good at rowing! Anyway, I look forward to hearing it on the radio on 20th November. Particularly the bit with the bells! That was really magical. I'm very jealo...

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: It's PROPH-IT, and we're going to take a quaver OFF IT
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2012/02/its-proph-it-and-were-going-to-take.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Monday, February 27, 2012. It's PROPH-IT, and we're going to take a quaver OFF IT. I think we've done the whole of The Apostles. Now, although I don't remember much of it because it's so long. But I'm pleased to report that I do actually like the end bit. There are some really lovely chords. Also, Rachel pointed out that one of the recurring Alleluia phrases is a bit like the "Optimistic Voices" chorus from The Wizard of Oz. Which is a nice thought! Stephen Hough writes a...

2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts: October 2011
http://dominantpedal.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
2nd Altos Like The Bottom Parts. Monday, October 24, 2011. Surely such a thing can't be possible! I hear you cry. But it turns out it can. It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago, so I took lots of cakes (and wine) to the rehearsal, as is the tradition with many of the altos. That night, however, there were free cupcakes in the tea room to celebrate our latest award. So we all had several of those as well. Although it's not quite as bad since I stopped trying to do all. Of the notes at the right octave,...
