One of the things that God has continued to bring to mind this year is the need to remember. I love how, after the Israelites cross the Jordan River when heading to the Promised Land, God tells them to set up a pile of rocks as a memorial and a remembrance. November 7, 2013. Tonight, I’m celebrating. Because, really, it’s just a good thing. It’s pretty remarkable how...

Not long ago, i spoke here about change–the difficulty associated with watching things which are comfortable and have come to be routine are shaken, altered, and made different. on the other side of that coin, though, i must also speak of the change which i love. which i think is necessary and so refreshing for my own heart. There is something intoxicating about the.

Sunday, June 1, 2014. Did you know that young people planning to begin their first year of college this year were born in 1994? I was a freshman in high school in 1994. I actually wore the styles that students throw "decades parties" these days to mock. I listened to music defined as "early rap." I watched TV shows currently on syndication on Nick at Night. I was young in 1994. So what does that make me now? Or is it the world around us? Is it the way we understand the world around us? Most likely it's a...

Thursday, October 31, 2013. Trick or Treat, TCK! For example, our TCKs don't really celebrate Halloween. I know a lot of kids who don't celebrate Halloween, so this isn't particularly remarkable; but our kids don't celebrate out of principle, they don't celebrate because nobody really does here either, they don't even know what it is. Besides, where could I get costume supplies? What would I do with a pile of Russian candies that nobody in our home really likes? Are my children going to be ok? It's this ...

Saturday, November 16, 2013. From Peter to Petunia. Петр, or Pyotr, has multiple nicknames in Russian, some of which we knew when we choose Peter's name, some of which we didn't. No, no Petunia. Niet spaseebo (no thank you.). Interestingly enough, new nicknames for Peter have developed by creating American style nicknames from these Russian style nicknames: nicknames of nicknames, so to speak. At some point, it's difficult to remember that we actually began with "Peter.". Posted by Culbert Report.

Friday, March 28, 2014. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. It's one of the most common requests in our home, "should we read a book? And it's a request that can't often be denied. She, like most 2 year olds, loves repetition as well. She could read the same book over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. And sadly for Mom and Dad, we don't find "The Little Engine That Could" quite as stimulating as she does. Read it again.". Posted by Culbert Report. Links to this post. His aggressive ...
