The Contemporary Reader: July 2015
http://thecontemporaryreader.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Go Home Faulkner, Youre Drunk (Difficult Books series). Posted by 文学少女 (Literature Girl). In my quest to 'broaden my literary horizon' I made a point to go out of this terrible 'complaisant zone' I am currently at. To be honest, my reading state is probably a lot bleaker that what I'm letting on: I have not finished a novel since three months ago! A difficult book is still just a book",. I told myself; how silly to get hung up on what other people say about how much of a PitA.

The Contemporary Reader: His Pride and Her Prejudice
http://thecontemporaryreader.blogspot.com/2009/02/greatest-love-story-ever-told.html
Wednesday, February 4, 2009. His Pride and Her Prejudice. Posted by 文学少女 (Literature Girl). It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. So starts the best love story ever told. Jane Austen writes this shining piece of romantic literature, Pride and Prejudice. Considered as one of her greatest masterpiece. It has the highest fan base among all her novels. I have to stop now or else I'll reveal everything about this already! It's jus...

The Contemporary Reader: Busy Days ; Lovely Books ; June Book Pile
http://thecontemporaryreader.blogspot.com/2012/06/busy-days-lovely-books-june-book-pile.html
Thursday, June 7, 2012. Busy Days ; Lovely Books ; June Book Pile. Posted by 文学少女 (Literature Girl). It's been a good month since I last posted, so you can tell I've been very busy! Busier than ever and working as hard as I can. My novels stacked high, my artbooks haphazard among my stuffed toys. I've been compiling some books that I also want to sell, and I've been doing a good deal of trading ( the "selling my books so I can save up enough to buy different ones" kind of trading XD. Read us, too! I have...

This is one of the paintings I did during our Mount Baker trip. I'm always tempted to paint shadows in bright purple. Most of the time it really does not work; this time is different, I think. Nature's Gift of Water. I was finally able to go to the "Nature's Gift of Water" art show in at the American Art Company. In Tacoma; this is the annual juried art show by Plein Air Washington. Paintings remind me of warmer, drier days. Who was manning the gallery asked me which was my favorite in the gallery. There were so many good works, I had trouble picking one, but finally pointed to Melanie Thompson's. Melanie Thompson masterfully chronicles the majesty and charm of Eastern Washington. But I encour...

Apples are a classic still life subject. And being in Washington state, why not paint them! I'm pretty happy with these apples, I feel like I've improved in how I paint them. I've been thinking a lot about practice, and getting better at painting. I am working on my "brush miles" more, and I can see that I'm getting better. But it is still all too easy to be discouraged after making a bad painting. Or feel like you're not improving, or maybe feeling like you're not improving. I'm taking a portrait drawin...

Flyingroc.org: Pond life
http://blog.flyingroc.org/2015/05/pond-life.html
I painted this from a photo reference I took while painting a the Nisqually park earlier this year. Normally, I find it really difficult to paint from photos. I think that the colors are always different from what I remember them to be. This time, I tried pushing the colors to a more saturated level. I think it worked. I might have to start taking more photo references. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Yakima River Canyon Morning. C) Roy Tan. Picture Window template. Powered by Blogger.

The Contemporary Reader: October 2013

Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Books in the Mail: HarperCollins Stash for August-September. Posted by 文学少女 (Literature Girl). I've just about settled here in Manila, yet my address is giving me a headache. I've only been used to a residential address, not a condominium unit number so I'm always worried about lost mail. I didn't think that my Harper Collins books would find its way to me. Until one fine morning:. It was just a lucky strike that they approached me to ask if I would be happy to receive books fro...

The Contemporary Reader: Six Worlds and a New One
http://thecontemporaryreader.blogspot.com/2013/05/six-worlds-and-new-one_1.html
Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Six Worlds and a New One. Posted by 文学少女 (Literature Girl). These are six books, the six different worlds, I have had the pleasure to read since arriving here in Manila. I've only been able to finish half of the total count. The moving AND the adjustment of moving to another place with a faster pace is stressful. The only good thing about Manila's transportation is that the 2-hour traffic gives me enough time to finish several chapters. His attitude is ugly! The fridge is now fill...
