pretty blue salwar: We Just Figured Out Blue's Food
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/we-just-figured-out-blues-food.html
Tuesday, April 8, 2008. We Just Figured Out Blue's Food. I can get so much mileage. Out of that post title. My roommate, tired of her food getting "lost" behind, say, a gallon of milk and not being discovered again until it had started to smell, decided last night that we should separate out our food by shelf. Our refrigerator looked pretty full to begin with; but as it turns out, 90% of the stuff in there is actually hers. 1 jar peanut butter (store brand). 1 jar strawberry preserves (store brand).

pretty blue salwar: I Am My Own Dhobi
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2007/08/i-am-my-own-dhobi.html
Wednesday, August 22, 2007. I Am My Own Dhobi. When I told the visiting theatre faculty (one day on the veranda, with a cup of chai) that I was planning to wash my own clothes while in Hyderabad, they looked at me like I was out of my mind. 8220;Get a dhobi,” they said. 8220;Would that be the woman I saw yesterday rinsing out a stack of men’s dress shirts in the lake? 8221; I retorted. 8220;I’m going to use Woolite and my five-gallon bucket.”. But upon arrival I found a few unexpected complications.

pretty blue salwar: So I Did My Taxes...
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/so-i-did-my-taxes.html
Tuesday, April 1, 2008. So I Did My Taxes. So I did my taxes. I earned just over $7,000 in 2007. And um. lived on that. It was interesting to find out that working full-time for four months at my temp job (three months in summer, one month after I got back from India) netted me $4,800. Had I kept that job year-round, I guess I would have made about $14,400. That's. depressing. Wow, you made way more than I did in my first full year as a grad student :) (compared to my measly $5800). Shah Rukh Out, Hugh L...

pretty blue salwar: An Open Letter To Barack Obama
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/open-letter-to-barack-obama.html
Saturday, April 5, 2008. An Open Letter To Barack Obama. Dear Senator Obama,. When I received an email from you (yes, from you directly, not from "The Obama Campaign" or anything like that) inviting me to apply for an Obama Organizing Fellowship, I was thrilled. First of all, I was thrilled that you had even thought to ask me. To apply in the first place. Secondly, I was very excited about the opportunity to potentially work on your campaign, thanks to the generosity of your Fellowship Program. Your Orga...

pretty blue salwar: Shah Rukh Out, Hugh Laurie In!
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/shah-rukh-out-hugh-laurie-in.html
Sunday, April 6, 2008. Shah Rukh Out, Hugh Laurie In! Yep My re-entry into American culture is 100% complete. I've stopped dreaming about Bollywood actors. SRK, you were lovely. I think it was the whole abs thing. That turned me off, honestly. To tell you the truth, I'm concerned that you might have an eating disorder. Or maybe a steroid dependency. And I know that I should be there, supporting you as you go through whatever psychological problem caused all this ab-abbing. While I did my yoga. April 7, 2...

pretty blue salwar: September 2007
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 29, 2007. Here are some pictures I took today during a Tempest. Because so many students needed roles, I split the role of Ariel up into a chorus of magical spirits. They're all wearing dhotis, and these lovely masks (shown here waiting for the paint to dry). My Iraqi student has been working non-stop on his Thermacor creations. I had written earlier about how frustrated I was that it took him two hours to build one goblet. Time I've no doubt. Friday, September 28, 2007. Behind the bl...

pretty blue salwar: Blue's Day
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/blues-day.html
Thursday, April 10, 2008. Cause they're all the same now. 8:30 am: Alarm rings on cell phone. Hit snooze. Cat begins climbing on chest, arms, face. Cat begins kneading various parts of body. Mmmmm. free massage. 8:45 am: Snooze goes off, cat leaps from bed. I follow, a little more slowly. Use toilet, feed and water cat, make cup of tea. 9:00 am: Open up laptop and load up new episode of House, M.D. 10:00 am: End shower, get dressed, makeup, etc. 10:10 am: Dry hair. 10:47 am: Drive to campus in manner of ...

pretty blue salwar: The Clothes Problem Again
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/clothes-problem-again.html
Monday, April 14, 2008. The Clothes Problem Again. I was late to class today. Not by much (the university clocktower was striking 11:00 as I ran into the building) but late nonetheless. I was late because I didn't have anything to wear. In India, I bought seven blue salwars (and one purple one - and received one orange salwar and one silver salwar as gifts). Tell me about it! Despite accumulating a closet full of clothes, I can never find something appropriate to wear for an important presentation in cla...

pretty blue salwar: Ascetics Invented Yoga 'Cause They Were Poor
http://prettybluesalwar.blogspot.com/2008/04/ascetics-invented-yoga-cause-they-were.html
Wednesday, April 2, 2008. Ascetics Invented Yoga 'Cause They Were Poor. I'm busy. I start teaching at 11 am and end my theatre rehearsals at 10:30 pm The days seem to blur into one another; despite our progress both in class and in rehearsal, it feels like I am doing, over and over, the same thing. Last year at this time, it was cooking. Up through about February, it was still cooking - but around the beginning of the year, something started to change. Grocery prices have skyrocketed. Since January 2008,...
