Relating to people – Tales of mixed reactions | Malawi thoughts
https://vivianmau.wordpress.com/2011/07/13/relating-to-people-tales-of-mixed-reactions
Ideas about a summer in Malawi. Relating to people – Tales of mixed reactions. On July 13, 2011. Lets do some matchings between emotions and events I experienced in Malawi. The events are: 1. Wedding 2. Funeral. The emotions: A. Excitement B. Disconnect. So what is the correct pairing? 1B and 2A, in other words, I felt very disconnected while attending a wedding, and extremely excited at a funeral! It turned out we did take a picture together! I am not sure why the wedding had that effect on me. As for t...

Ideas about a summer in Malawi. When school is off…. On August 6, 2011. How are people in Malawi? Their lives are so different, we live in such different situations! How are they different from us? This is a post about how similar we are. And a post about how teenagers like to take stupid pictures. In my house my 2 brothers and 2 sisters are with us, and once we had a cousin who came to spend part of her holidays with us. Meninas, desculpa que voces tem que fazer parte disso, mas essas fotos merecem!

https://vivianmau.wordpress.com/2011/08/10/checking-toilets-checking-my-learning
Ideas about a summer in Malawi. Checking toilets, checking my learning. On August 10, 2011. Some time ago I went to have a meeting with a village chief to talk about sanitation. When I arrived there, other men from his family were also at the meeting. One of them was specially vocal and was urging ME to tell THEM what they should be doing to improve sanitation in their village, because I would be able to tell them new things that would greatly improve their life styles. But what do I know? Again, I have ...

Ideas about a summer in Malawi. Monthly Archives: April 2011. On April 26, 2011. Once I found out I was going to Burkina, my first assignment with the 6 other JFs going there as well was to do a general research on the country, the people etc. Here is a quick summary of some of the information we gathered that I think helps to understand the context of where I will be. 1960 Haute Volta becomes independent and it is governed by a series of Republics. In 1983 a part of the army starts a revolution and the.

Stories and experiences from my life in Malawi. The Story of Home in Sakhome. On September 8, 2011. In mid-July, a little over 2 months after arriving in Malawi, I found myself travelling 10 hours south to Phalombe District. Passing by rolling green hills, and vast landscapes of tea plantations and astonishingly breathtaking mountains, I was accompanied by two medium-sized bags carrying some clothes and my laptop. The breathtaking Mulanje Mountain Range that spans Phalombe and Mulanje District. When a ne...

And biscuits but when I told him that he wasn’t pleased and organized to get a truck to take me into Tamale today (even though it’s a holiday! To get some cooking supplies. During the ride I was talking to my friend Napari the driver and he asked if I was married (super common question) I told him I wasn’t because I can’t cook so I would be a bad wife. Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I have spent the last 72 hours finding my way to Northern Ghana. I can’t believe how much has already happened and I haven’t even started work yet! Leaving Toronto, one of the group members wasn’t able to travel through the United States because she has a passport from Iran. I thought this was absolutely ridiculous but in the end she made it to Accra, Ghana before we did! And buy Milka chocolate in Frankfurt. Leave a Re...
Fish | Jenn in Ghana
https://jenninghana.wordpress.com/2011/05/23/fish
Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Bad Wife →. I know this may sound a bit crazy but I have a pretty intense fear of fish. It’s completely irrational and I have no idea where it comes from, it just exists. Somehow, I managed to avoid eating fish during all my travels but in Ghana it seems this is impossible! There is fish EVERYWHERE and I’m not talking about fish sticks or filets I’m talking about straight up fish, nothing removed, grilled on both sides!

He pulls up a chair beside mine and we re-cap on the computer functions and techniques we had gone through during our previous lesson. As we start to go through the various ways one can use the sort function to rearrange columns of data, he asks me a question that later prompted some development thoughts that I had been sitting on for a while. Combining both approaches is seen in ...

Stories and experiences from my life in Malawi. Archive for September, 2011. Days like Month 5, days like today. On September 29, 2011. Being in Malawi. It’s been quite a roller coaster of a journey so far, filled with humble and proud moments, amazing people at work and home, and colourful experiences. Truthfully, by the end of yesterday, I wanted to cry. Month 5 only reminded me of everything I was missing back home (missing all of you so much! And nothing of what I had here in Malawi. The culprit: allowances | Postcards from Malawi
https://postcardsfrommalawi.wordpress.com/2012/01/12/the-culprit-allowances
Stories and experiences from my life in Malawi. Laquo; Trash or treasure in pile/aisle 3? Naming a new life. This morning’s event calls for a quick post on allowances. An allowance: An amount of money allowed, granted or paid to a person, typically to meet specified needs or expenses. But when allowances are provided without necessity, it can create a negative system that only perpetuates with further unnecessary and unjustified allowance hand-outs. Yes, it happens. Yes, it happens. Yes, it happens.

Salt Lake City Wedding Photography. Riley {Salt Lake Portrait Photography Sports }. January 23, 2015. I have never done any sports shots or portraits before, so when I was asked if I could do hockey portraits, I took the challenge! If you have ever been at a skating rink or sports arena, you know that the light can be bright. Bright arena light is great for pictures, right? The athletes can see where they’re going and you can see all the surroundings clearly. Wrong! Riley is a hockey champ! I’ve kn...

Malawi thoughts | ideas about a summer in Malawi
Ideas about a summer in Malawi. On August 13, 2011. During my time here we were in the dry season, or winter season. Rains usually go up to May or June, but this year by early-May they had stopped. We had some few drizzles and 3 days of heavy rain up until now. Winter in the tropics is simply not comparable to winter in Canada, but it was cold! When the winds stopped a bit, they were off to catch some fish. Nsima with beans, potatoes, and bean leaves. No fish here. Checking toilets, checking my learning.
