Mike's VTS I Blog: Summative Reflection Project
http://myvtsblog.blogspot.com/2014/12/summative-reflection-project.html
Mike's VTS I Blog. Sunday, December 14, 2014. I originally started out with the concept of painting a pumpkin in a representational way. The pumpkin itself might symbolize the container that we create by laying down the guidelines for VTS students, and also the bounty of ideas that are present within the discussion itself. I am an abstract painter, and although this style may seem like a logical approach for me to take, I was hesitant towards summing up my experience in VTS-I in this regard. This simple ...

Saturday, August 30, 2014. VTS1: Week 1 Blog Assignment. I've decided to try implementing VTS in one of my 4th grade. Classes. They visit me for 50 minutes every three days. The class has 18 students. In it, and eight of them are English Language Learners. One student has a mood disorder, but no other students have learning disorders. Typically, they are a pretty calm and quiet class, but have been having a lot of student drama lately. My ELL students are the ones who are VERY quiet. Particularly, I'm ho...

Technically, this is statistically significant. The average went from 25 to 31. However, I was disappointed to see that some students decreased in word count, or just barely improved. I believe this happened for a few reasons. 1) It was the Monday after Thanksgiving break, and they were not in working mode. This has helpe...

Sunday, December 14, 2014. Summative Project and Artist Statement. Using Visual Thinking Strategies in my classroom has benefitted me in so many ways. I have been most struck by its focus on patience, quiet, and listening. VTS, in some ways, mirrors my philosophy on life by placing so much importance on the true, careful art of these ideas. As a metaphor for my learning this semester, I painted a stack of balancing rocks using watercolors. Sadara the Cat Collector. December 14, 2014 at 2:47 PM. Wow, what...
