Goldfields Railway Society was established in 1980 to preserve the rail heritage of the local area with the Society being based on the old Waihi Railway Station. Google map showing the path of the Goldfields Railway from Waihi to Waikino. Volunteers are an integral part of Goldfeilds Railway. The Society was built by volunteers in 1980, and is still being run by volunteers today. Goldfields Railway Incorporated is registered under the Incorporated Societies Act. With the expansion of the Martha Mine to peak production, Waihi in the 1900s was one of the largest boroughs in the country. History of Goldfields Railway. Sie hatten schon Blütenknospen angesetzt, die, wenn sie sich gegen Ende des Jahres öffnen, die Bäume in rot tauchen werden und deshalb auch den Namen New Zealand christmas tree bekommen haben. Nach dem Rückweg mussten wir uns stärken und fuhren zum nächsten Wanderweg nach Waikino. Im ehemaligen Bahnhof gibt es heutzutage das Station Cafe, wo sogar noch ein niedlicher Zug fuhr.
