Obsessed with anything that flies since 2007. Skip to primary content. 4″ Little John. Length: 16.3″. Diameter: 1.64″. The Estes Der Red Max is the first rocket I ever built. It was my start in hobby rocketry. After flying so many times I forgot the number, the rocket was retired for fear of losing it. It was briefly brought out of retirement at Fire in the Sky 2010 to take part in a Der Red Max drag race. Leave a Comment or Question Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. I built Madcow Rocketry’s sport-scale version of the Army’s Little John artillery rocket to use it for my NAR Jr. Level 1 certification flight. At WAC’s 2010 March launch, my cert. flight on an AeroTech H148 went perfectly. Every one of the Little John’s subsequent flights has been successful as well. 2 thoughts on “ 4″ Little John.
