watching kereru: home, finally.

http://watchingkereru.blogspot.com/2013/02/home-finally.html

Who would have thought that this humble little bach that we call home could ever hold such contentment and joy for me as it does now. The weekend we moved in here, all I remember is crying. The state of the building and the size of the place meant that the Real Estate Agent assumed we would demolish this little bach and build something new. The section we had bought was steep, we knew that might be tricky but that too we thought we would find ways of managing. To cut a long (3 years) and tedious story sh...

watching kereru: the wee birthday girl

http://watchingkereru.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-wee-birthday-girl.html

The wee birthday girl. Had her 2nd birthday today and we celebrated with cake and plenty of time for her to play with friends. Ruby has been preparing for it over the last few days and although I wasn't really in the mood and I could have chosen to do a hundred other things I let go and celebrated Charlotte's birthday too. There may not be many more. Ruby tells me she notices that her friends play less than they used to: they seem to play less and want to talk more she says. Happy Birthday sweet Charlotte.

watching kereru: structure in a child-led learning environment.

http://watchingkereru.blogspot.com/2013/03/structure-in-child-led-learning.html

Structure in a child-led learning environment. After a Summer with a full house (and lawn) of visitors, Gunter at home and a few trips away in the last month, the girls and I are craving for a bit of peace with our weekly rhythm and looking forward to sinking into the steadiness of the framework of our home days. People often assume that because we cultivate a child-led path of learning that our days are unstructured. We have always had a rhythm to ours days but over the last couple of years we have move...

watching kereru: digging into the life right at my feet.

http://watchingkereru.blogspot.com/2013/02/digging-into-life-right-at-my-feet.html

Digging into the life right at my feet. I finally find myself back in front of the screen. The rest of the family, as well as a couple of taggers-on (is that even a word :), have just leapt into the car heading to the wharf 5 minutes down the road, boogie boards in the back. I have missed writing here but truly life has been just been full with Summertime goodness this last 6 weeks. Summer has turned out to be just the good medicine that we were all seeking. Where I originally found the link. Fellowship ...

No romance in publishing….. | Learning along the way...

https://kimberlymoore.wordpress.com/2009/07/14/submission-history

Learning along the way…. No romance in publishing. July 14, 2009. Is the story about the call. I was in the shower…I was juggling groceries, I was painting with my daughter, or I just returned from a walk on the beach then… IT HAPPENED…. There is an official term in the publishing business for this behavior,. Waiting for silence is weird. And I mean wait years, not months. It took Lauren Child SEVEN years to get her first. Two months later, I received my first form rejection. That was a year ago. I h...

Learning along the way...

Learning along the way…. May 26, 2012. Zuva finally found a use for the helmet ornaments we got for Christmas. These little dolls perfectly represents the dichotomy in which I live. I love both the Waldorf environment and philosophy. The the smell of wood, the pink translucent walls, the pastel muslins draping every harsh corner, and of course, the handmade dolls and blocks. I also resonate with the philosophy of learning gently through role play and respect the seven-year cycles. May 26, 2012 at 5:07 pm.

Junk to funk | Learning along the way...

https://kimberlymoore.wordpress.com/2010/10/03/junk-to-funk

Learning along the way…. October 3, 2010. One of my favorite yearly events on this little island is called Junk to Funk . It’s purpose is to showcase how to re-use and recycle. Mostly it is a fashion show where children and adults exhibit outrageous creativity and panache. Luckily for me, my eldest daughter is usually involved in one way or another, so I’ve never missed a show. The first year she made a dress out of pillow cases, this year she was dancing. 2 Responses to “Junk to funk”. Enter your commen...

lyttel town: October 2011

http://lyttel-town.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Imagine lyttelton; imagine possibility. Monday, 10 October 2011. Over the past 50 years money affairs have become a far more private matter as people turn away from their neighbours and communities and towards the ever-consuming, self-absorbing task of growing their own personal money tree/s. This has evolved a culture which is consumer-driven; a culture where individualism and competition are king and the trust and connectivity that we rely on for fulfilling human relationships undercut. The cultural sh...

http://lyttel-town.blogspot.com/2012/03/local-food-black-beauties.html

Imagine lyttelton; imagine possibility. Sunday, 25 March 2012. Local food: black beauties. Do you notice that each year the Black Beauty peaches (often called black boy) are a bit of a surprise at the end of a long Summer and the end of the peach growing season. Such a tasty and pretty surprise. They are dropping all over the Harbour Basin right now. Make sure you have the patience to wait long enough so they are perfect for eating. A ripe Black Beauty peach is fairly unbeatable - don't rush it. Great te...

Imagine lyttelton; imagine possibility. Sunday, 1 April 2012. Chickweed. Stellaria media. We can't do a local food series without mentioning this humble plant. At this time of the year (and in Spring) when it is still warm but with the damp from the dewy mornings, chickweed really comes into it's own. Take a walk outside and you will certainly see it in your garden. If you have no garden to speak of, just take at a glance at the edges of your yard or in the more wild areas behind the house. Of course, if...

Learning along the way…. What I learn while driving…. April 20, 2012. 8220;You know what? 8221; she asks casually from the passenger seat. 8220;I don’t think I should have a baby now,” the pretty young teen answers. 8220;Is this a consideration? 8221; I ask in my calmest mom voice. 8221; I thought about it, but now I’ve realized something” she says continues cheerily. 8220;What’s that? 8221; (calm still). 8220;I only really want to buy lots of cute little baby shoes.”. Keeping an eye on the art, business, and study of children's television. Friday, July 17, 2009. More, and Earlier, TV on the Internets: Kideos.com. The Web continues to go down—in age, that is.
