Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) is an NSF-wide program that supports international activities across all NSF supported disciplines. The primary goal of PIRE is to support high quality projects in which advances in research and education could not occur without international collaboration. The Global Integrated Drought Monitoring and Prediction System (GIDMaPS) is a drought monitoring and prediction system that provides near real-time drought information based on multiple drou...

Subsurface Processes Lab - Fall 2014. Civil and Environmental Engineering. I received a BS in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a minor in Earth Sciences from UC Santa Barbara. I joined the Subsurface Processes Lab in summer 2014 where I'm working towards a masters. I am interested in fate and transport processes, particularly in coastal areas. I am a third year chemical engineering student and I am interested in working in a field related to water and wastewater management upon graduation.

Fluid-rock interactions lead to changes in transport properties in porous and fractured media that defy simple representation by continuum models. Mineral dissolution and precipitation can also alter the mechanical and geophysical properties of rocks and unconsolidated sediments. Our studies in idealized analog systems and real rock speciments (right) aim to develop a mechanistic understanding of the role of different parameters (flowrate, reaction kinetics, fluid composition, etc.) on reacti...
