In the Good Flow. Adventures and thoughts of Em Shan. Monthly Archives: October 2014. Becoming a Playboater, eh! I used to think playboating was stupid. kayaking is about going with the flow, harnessing the power of the river, and traveling with gravity downstream I said. Then I went to the Ottawa River, and everything changed. Edge control, water reading, vision placement and rolling are just a few of the skills playboating will challenge you to become better at. This was good inspiration for me to hear...

In the Good Flow. Adventures and thoughts of Em Shan. Girls at Play goes to Nepal – Life on the Sun Kosi. The Power of Creek Week →. Walking Through the Himalayas – Annapurna Circuit Trek. Preface: This post is not about kayaking. It’s about another type of adventure I had recently in Nepal; one that still delivered the satisfaction of physical exertion, seemingly unearthly places, and the camaraderie of sisterhood. In the Good Flow. Adventures and thoughts of Em Shan. Monthly Archives: August 2014. My friend Kristin Alligood checking out the new small shaft Geronimo on the Upper Wind River in Washington this summer. When a paddle shaft is too big for one’s hands, several things can result. 1 There is often a loss of dexterity. Instead of being able to make fine-tuned adjustments to the blade angle with the hand, the paddler has to use more wrist action which is not as precise or comfortable. This first set is my gr...

Expeditionettes: Alaska!
http://expeditionettes.blogspot.com/2007/08/alaska.html
Wednesday, August 15, 2007. We spent the night on the river and fished some more. The sun set around 9 or so and just stayed a sunset for hours, well past midnight. The next morning we flew back to Fairbanks and drove to meet 18 of Scotts friends to float down the Copper River. Dan and the potato gun. Scott amongst the paw prints. Expeditionettes: Four toes and a phlange...
http://expeditionettes.blogspot.com/2007/07/four-toes-and-flange.html
Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Four toes and a phlange. This is this guy, Daniel (from Pikes Peak Whitewater Club)'s foot, if you notice, his little toe does not even touch the ground, unless he strains to put it there. Weird, huh? Stacy and I had never paddled this section of river before, and we had such a great time with the crew there. We did some surfing and just had so much fun cruising through the rapids. That guy's toes are JACKED UP! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). IR Vacation to Hell.

Expeditionettes: Yukon Ho!
http://expeditionettes.blogspot.com/2008/07/yukon-ho.html
Friday, July 11, 2008. And now for the latest adventures of Molly Malone, the dirtpatch anthropologist. That's right folks, I've headed to the northwest corner of Canada to live out the dream Calvin and Hobbes inspired in me so long ago. The photo up top is of the sign at the BC/YT border: "Welcome to North of 60." When I first saw it, I thought it said "Welcome to North of Go," in reference to Monopoly. I was wrong. These are my new moccasins made from moose hide and beaver fur (don't tell PETA). Th...

Expeditionettes: Charlie River Fishing Trip
http://expeditionettes.blogspot.com/2008/07/charlie-river-fishing-trip.html
Wednesday, July 09, 2008. Charlie River Fishing Trip. The third week of June, we rafted down the beautiful Charlie River. It felt good to be on that river, even as the wind whispered past my ears, trying to cut through my jacket, stinging my bear toes and fingers. . Here is our crew. Allen, Jason, Matt, Mindy, Dale, Newman, me and Scottie. We saw several bald eagles and I did catch 5 little greylings, which I threw back since they were too small to eat. Here are some pics of the Yukon river:.

Little Woman in Big Whitewater | Earthy Journalist

How to have fun with the world. Little Woman in Big Whitewater. August 27, 2012. In People in Whitewater. Guiding at Pillow Rock, Upper Gauley. If you head to most commercially run whitewater rivers today, you’ll probably see close to a 50/50 split of male/female guides. Maybe 60/40 with a few more males than females. And you’ll not likely notice any coddling of the women, or disdain for their presence. This wasn’t always the case, though. Moose River, New York. I was exhausted mentally, emotionally, and...
