Perrin Ministries Blog: August 2015

Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Don't be so weird! Image source: aquaportail.com. I saw a video from an online Washington Post article tonight that saddened me. A comic named John Oliver bludgeoned televangelists and faith preachers with his sarcasm and a dose of reality. This faith message he mocks is one I grew up with, but on some of his points I actually agree with him. He genuinely portrays the way our message appears to outsiders. Links to this post. Perrin Ministries Blog: Fatherhood

Thursday, July 30, 2015. Image source: sheknows.com. Today I was thinking back to something I wrote 17 years ago. It's just as true today. God is a good Father. and He loves His children. Last week my wife gave birth to our 2nd child… a little girl we named Ashton. It didn’t come soon enough! Nine months… it doesn’t seem too long. Unless you’re in school awaiting summer break, or away from your loved ones, or pregnant. Then nine months can seem like an eternity. I would never be the same. He doesn’...

Monday, July 13, 2015. Image source: jamiebrownmusic.files.wordpress.com. Here's the thing: the diva mindset is an indicator of insecurity and immaturity. It reveals a person's selfish heart, wanting to be noticed and recognized. But unchurched people - especially Millennials - are turned off by this sort of "showboating." They are hungry for authenticity, and a diva reeks of something incredibly fake. So for all you Church Divas out there, I have some advice:. 1 Congregational Singer Divas:. If you aren...

Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Are you building a monument or scrawling graffiti? Crusader graffiti on the wall of the Dover Castle Saxon Church (Image credit: John Dahl). Before moving back to the USA our family was able to do one final European road trip. We took the ferry from Calais, France to Dover, England, and spent the night there. The next day we toured the Dover Castle. It was awesome! Men and women of honor build something significant. Small minded men and women seek to tear it down. But...I was...

Perrin Ministries Blog: Things are not always what they seem

Thursday, July 16, 2015. Things are not always what they seem. Images source: paintersoflouisville.com. Have you ever felt as if no matter how much you prayed, hoped or trusted in God, He wasn't listening; or even worse - He wasn't going to get involved? It's frustrating when you pray and are doing your best to believe in God's willingness (and ability) to change your situation, but still see no changes taking place. In 1 Samuel 17. Satan thought he had Jesus conquered. He thought He had succeeded an...

Saturday, November 29, 2014. Thoughts On Children's Ministry (series). As our family moved to Southwestern Germany we began to search for a church home for our family. We visited over 20 churches. They came in all shapes and sizes. The styles and denominations were different as well. When all was said and done, we realized more than ever that young families search for churches that their kids love. Robin wrote a series of blogs about her thoughts. Thoughts on Children's Ministry (part 1). We Are Visitors...

Tuesday, November 30, 2010. The gorgeous Black Forest! It’s been amazingly beautiful here over the past few days, even though it’s been COLD! We’ve had snow for the past three days… and it’s remained! The sun came out for a few minutes today… it was absolutely beautiful, so I thought I’d share a photo or two. Oftentimes it’s so thick that visibility is only a few feet, but above it is crystal clear. We’re thankful that God has called us to live in such a beautiful place! Labels: americans in europe.
