Sunday, September 2, 2007. How big is that forrest? I was wondering how big a forrest near my house is. The idea was to take a google earth snapshot of it, draw a polygon around the forrest and have the computer calculate its acreage. This actually works. There is a great Java-based GPLed software called Kosmo. Which calculates the acreage. You import a bitmap and draw the contours of the area, then Kosmo calculates the area of the resulting polygon.
