Old Forms of Power | Marmalade

Old Forms of Power. This description of volunteer firemen associations is intriguing. 8220;They were essentially fraternal orders . . . They had also been political organizations since the 1830s”. Leonard L. Richards (See more at end of post.). American society and politics used to be dominated by such associations. I’ve written about some of them before. They were powerful organizations that were at times forces for good and at other times merely forces of local power. These are the remaining old famili...

William Clouse of Kentucky, 1805 | Marmalade

William Clouse of Kentucky, 1805. Possible Residences, Marriages, and Children/Siblings. The 1830 census (Jessamine KY) for William Clouse (20-29) shows an adult female (20-29), presumably his wife Patsy Fain, and two (free white) persons under the age of 20. One of those should be James Wesley Clouse when he was around 4 years old, but the other is unknown. Another child? Did he have other children that he brought with him to this other possible marriage? Were there slaves in the family that were freed?

Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 10, 2012. Posted in Lost and Found. January 29, 2012. In hindsight it was on that frost-bit morning in early November, as Sale stood rubbing the rheum from his eyes and hopping from foot to foot to ward off the cold, that I knew he wouldn’t make it to the end of the year. 8216;Ah, man. I totally forgot,’ he said. 8216;It’s on for a while though, yeah? 8216;Until February,’ I said. ‘There’s plenty of time to see it I guess.’. And I was gripped by a sudden sadness.

Re: Mythicism, Minimalism, and its Detractors. Here is a link to a blog by Thomas Verenna with a comment I posted:. Mythicism, Minimalism, and its Detractors. It is quite humorous that I mixed you up with that other blogger. I didn’t get enough sleep last night and my mind was apparently a bit fuzzy. This blog post has good info. I’ll have to think more about the distinction between legend and mythology. Do you think most religions begin with legends? I’m more of an idea person in that I prefer phi...

I’ll keep my main message simple. Basically, do as you were taught by your kindergarten teacher:. Play nicely with others. I offer no hard and fast rules to follow. At the bare minimum, I expect common decency. This standard of worthwhile discussion will be applied to all equally. If you think I fail my own standard, you are more than welcome to call me out on it. Still, this is my blog and so I’m the judge about this standard. I’ve never had a comment policy before and I had never blocked anyone u...
