Project Day: February 2015
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 26, 2015. Weekly Science Experiment #8. This week's science experiment is really a report on several weeks of observations of plant growth. About a month ago I discovered that some of the garlic cloves I had for cooking were sprouting. I thought, "wouldn't it be fun for the kids to plant these and see what happens? So after our regular weekly science experiment ( #5. The other three cloves got planted in a clear glass vase with good old potting soil. So we pulled them out of their home...

Project Day: Science Experiment #23 and #24
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015/07/science-experiment-23-and-24.html
Saturday, July 18, 2015. Science Experiment #23 and #24. My husband mentioned to me last night that I "haven't posted anything in a while" and he's right. In an effort to catch up, I am going to post two experiments at once. I am sorry to report that experiment #23 was a flop. The idea was to demonstrate solar power by using the hot summer sun to melt old crayon bits into one new multi-color crayon. Several weeks ago I discovered last Thursday that the Wisconsin Explorer book that Ian and Brynn were doing.

Project Day: August 2015
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 17, 2015. Aaron's Bridge to Somewhere. This is our swamp. I know that when most people brag about their properties or write descriptions for real estate advertisements they don't announce that their yard is bounded on one side by a swamp, but that is the case in our yard, and we embrace it. Except the mosquitoes that fly out of the swamp. We squash those. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Science Experiment #26 - Is it Art or Science? Is it really the middle of August already? To illustrate what ...

Project Day: Weekly Science Experiment #20
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015/06/weekly-science-experiment-20.html
Thursday, June 11, 2015. Weekly Science Experiment #20. This week's science experiment is really more of an activity, but it teaches kids to observe the world around them, so I think it fits in here. Each summer since Ian was three years old I have headed off to the nearest State Park Office and picked up that year's "Wisconsin Explorer" workbook for each of the kids (this is Cam's first year). It was a fun way to spend a soggy afternoon indoors, while still learning about the world we live in.

Project Day: Weekly Science Experiment #21
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015/06/weekly-science-experiment-21.html
Friday, June 19, 2015. Weekly Science Experiment #21. I didn't have a mushroom guide or any other material to show the kids, so we mostly looked, touched, and commented on the things we saw. Then the kids went off to play and I tossed the fungus in the garbage. Happy science, everyone! PS - if you happen to know the names of any of these mushrooms, please comment! Project Day: Capturing Caterpillars - First Attempt
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2013/07/capturing-caterpillars-first-attempt.html
Monday, July 15, 2013. Capturing Caterpillars - First Attempt. The other day my kids found out that during my childhood one of my siblings found a Monarch Butterfly caterpillar and brought it home and eventually we all watched it hatch into a butterfly. They were fascinated by this story and immediately put "Hatch a Butterfly" on our Summer Fun list. Ian entered into the search wholeheartedly. Cam was a little skeptical, but he was stuck going wherever I did and he didn't complain much. July 15, 2013 at ...

Project Day: Science Experiment #25
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015/07/science-experiment-25.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. The first few pictures are going to make it look like this is not a post about science experiments or activities, but it is - sort of. On Thursday, our usual science day, we had to leave our house for many hours because our carpets were being cleaned. So, we headed to the beach at Kohler-Andrae State Park. Some of our cousins met us at the park and we played in the water and sand all morning and part of the afternoon. Our search was fruitless. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Project Day: March 2015
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 23, 2015. New Activity On Old Projects. Hello and welcome to Monday! Did you all have a nice weekend? We did. It was one of those rare weekends where we didn't have any places we HAD to go or official things we MUST accomplish. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of things to DO (there always are), but there was no real pressure to do any particular thing. It was productive, but in a nice and relaxed sort of way. A few years ago we did a major renovation of our living room and entry way.

Project Day: June 2015
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Head and thorax, abdomen, abdomen. Head and thorax, abdomen, abdomen. Six legs, two antennae, and sometimes wings. Head, and thorax, abdomen, abdomen.". Sung to the tune of "Head and Shoulders, Knees, and Toes"). That's the song the Wisconsin Explorers book used to teach proper insect recognition, so that is the song the kids sang, at the top of their lungs, as they wandered the backyard in search of "bugs" to capture and examine during last Thursday's weekly science activity.

Project Day: Summertime Front Door "Wreath"
http://dana-projectday.blogspot.com/2015/07/summertime-front-door-wreath.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Summertime Front Door "Wreath". Then I cut apart a bunch of fake flowers (also from Walmart) and hot-glued them onto the letter. For a hanger I hot-glued a piece of yarn across the back. That didn't work so well, so I switched to Gorilla glue. It's still hanging, which I guess means that it was the right material for the job. Other than paint drying time, the whole thing took about 15 minutes to put together. Which is just about all the time I had between kid activities that day.
