AWBirder: Always on the lookout for fine birds. A blog about my birding adventures within the UK and further afield for work and pleasure. Saturday, 14 February 2015. Me and my old mate Lewis went up to Aberdeen this morning to chase after the Harlequin Duck that's been there for a while this winter. There's been less than 20 records of Harlequin in the UK. Although not as flashy as the last one (North Uist 2013), this was at least very approachable. It showed very nicely down to about 20ft! Yesterday, 2...

Pam's Place: March 2015
http://pampick.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 March 2015. I took a trip to Whitby at the weekend, i've only passed through before. My husband and daughter have never been at all so it was a fun new place to explore. It was also the first time out properly with my new camera which i'm still getting to grips with. Taking a walk along the east pier just about froze our ears off but there's always something about being by the sea that makes me not care so much about the cold! We spotted Fulmars up on the cliffs. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. I don't visit here enough despite it being fairly close by. This visit is early April, Easter Monday. Of course in April the trees are still mostly bare with a little growth just starting to show. It's a haven for birds, we saw a Buzzard overhead and in the trees Greenfinch, Magpies, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Robins, Long Tailed Tits. The pondlife was fantastic and we spent quite a while watching the toads. Spotted the first Small Tortoiseshell butterfly of the year too. Erich's bird...

Why watch wildlife? | A site dedicated to watching wildlife
A site dedicated to watching wildlife. So why watch wildlife? 8211; About the blog. In praise of the British coast. August 14, 2015. Apparently visits to the British coast have declined by 20%. Across ten years, from 62% of people visiting the coast at least once in year in 2005, down to just 42% now. I find this really depressing. My recent trip to the coast of Northumberland was eye-opening, reminding me of another place I love, and why. Big open seas and skies, wind-swept and interesting. Across the s...
