I am interested in the activity set loose in the eye when colors and forms meet. I am fascinated by the interplay of round against straight, large against small. Amidst the streets and buildings of the big cities I see the vast array of multifaceted images that comprise the world of civilized humans. The real is mixed with the illusory, until it is difficult to tell where one begins and the other leaves off. I look for the underlying recurring forms and colors that make up the language of the seen. This new work stems from my recent stay in Washington, DC. It hints at a new direction, a door opening through which I have not yet ventured. It was done in the Freer and the Sackler Galleries of Asian Art in the Smithsonian Museum. I. Discovered the Freer in a roundabout way, seeking refuge from the large, noisy, fast-moving crowds in the natural history museum.
