Verbiage about wine and life. Newer posts →. Reflections on the Wine Blogger’s Conference – #1 . . . . In the Beginning . . . 2014 marked the first time I’ve experienced the Wine Blogger’s Conference. I went into the week somewhat trepidatiously, truly not knowing what to expect. I learned that I could convey on paper what I try to do in person to educate people about wine in a different and entertaining way. I like to look at the industry through a consumer’s point of view, even though I am a winema...
Does It Really Matter – Budweiser and ‘MacroBrews’ . . . « Wine Verbiage

Verbiage about wine and life. Does It Really Matter – Budweiser and ‘MacroBrews’ . . . I really enjoyed the Super Bowl this past weekend. Yes, I was hoping the Patriots would win as I’m not a big Pete Carroll fan, but I was hoping for a close, exciting game and it certainly delivered on that! In addition, I always get together with a bunch of other folks to watch the game, including a few others who share birthdays around the same time as mine, and we just have a good time. In any event, it’s been intere...

Verbiage about wine and life. The Power of Your Nose . . . and Ears . . . As most of you know, I make wine for a living – and dig it every day. One of my favorite aspects of what I do is how others get enjoyment out of what I do. To me, that makes it all worth it. Why am I talking about this? I love that I can be transported so easily by music, or aromas, or a movie. It’s ‘time travel’ in the most fun of ways . . . Just thought I’d share. This entry was posted in Breaking Bread. Does it Matter . . . Closures . . . « Wine Verbiage

Verbiage about wine and life. Does it Matter . . . Closures . . . As many of you know, I am a huge fan of the screw cap. Let me say at the beginning here that I do NOT believe it is the ‘perfect’ closure as I do NOT believe that there is such a thing. But let me explain why I use screw caps for all of my tercero wines. Again, this is not to say that it is ‘better’, but there is a reasoning that I think is important to understand:. What’s the big deal with TCA? This entry was posted in Barrel and Cellar.

Wine, wine, wine, and more wine. Liveblogging red wine at WBC14. Live blogging the whites and rosés yesterday was so overwhelming that I almost didn’t attend the reds session this afternoon, but then I talked myself into it. I joined a little late because I spent so long talking WordPress in the lobby with the charming Allison from Please the Palate. Bianchi Heritage Selection Paso Robles 2011 Zinfandel: Pretty classic black pepper and blackberry jam with a nice lifted aspect on the top. Tastes like ...

Wine, wine, wine, and more wine. Tasting Erath “Dion” Pinot Gris 2013. Well, this was a pleasant surprise! I thought this was just a simple Oregon Pinot Gris that I had chilled down and forgotten about, but I pulled it out of the fridge and lo! Quick, go check the back of your fridge for some inexpertly great wine. Can’t hurt to try! May 20, 2015. Tour de France Friday Flight at Vino. Never take a picture of 5 bottles back-lit by the summer sun. Hosts a wine tasting every Friday night. This is what a fli...

Wine, wine, wine, and more wine. WBC14: Panel of Santa Barbara Winemakers. Santa Barbara/San Ynes/Santa Rita are among some of my favorite California regions — I’ve never had a bad wine from this place — so it was both a pleasure to know that the Wine Blogging Conference 2014 would be held here, and also that they kicked off Friday with a panel of Santa Barbara winemakers. Richard Sanford of Alma Rosa Winery and Vineyards. Ken Brown of Ken Brown Wines. And Richard Longoria of Longoria Wines. Bob Lindquis...

Wine, wine, wine, and more wine. The folks at Santa Margherita USA sent me some samples for review this week, with the understanding that I don’t guarantee reviews for samples, etc etc. That said, all the bottles retail at a price that’s in my drinking/reviewing sweet spot, so I’ll probably let y’all know what I think about them. The Muller Thurgau is particularly interesting, and who doesn’t love a Tuscan Rose? If you have a strong opinion either way, let me know in the comments! June 26, 2016. Live blo...

Wine Verdict | The real verdict in wine reviews
The real verdict in wine reviews. Beyond Pinot Noir: Other food-friendly wines. March 21, 2011. This is a great little piece on wines that pair well with food beyond the Pinot Noir. Http:/ www.foodandwine.com/articles/not-pinot-new-food-friendly-red-wines. The gamay out of Beaujoulais really is a fun wine to drink. Not too complicated, light body and fruitful. Great for any occasion, it is definitely not stuffy or stodgy. Dexter Lake 2008 California Red Wine. March 20, 2011. March 20, 2011. March 16, 2011.
