Too Many Questions? | WordAbilities Blog

https://wordabilities.wordpress.com/2014/04/05/too-many-questions

April 5, 2014. 8212; WordAbilities @ 9:33 am. Apparently, that individual thought I should just. I vowed never to doubt myself again; from that point on, when I had a decision to make, I would go with my gut and just do it. Unfortunately, that didn’t work either because a few months later, my position was eliminated, which everyone knows is the politically correct way of saying Your services are no longer required. So now my question is: is there such thing as asking too many questions? 1 Comment ».

Speak Up! | WordAbilities Blog

https://wordabilities.wordpress.com/2014/03/10/speak-up

March 10, 2014. 8212; WordAbilities @ 5:53 pm. As an oral communication instructor, I’ve noticed some bad habits when it comes to speaking, not only in my students, but in the general population as well. The most common are mumbling, running words together, talking too fast or too softly, and using poor pronunciation and enunciation. Remember the low talker from Seinfeld. How many of us have ever agreed to do something we later regretted simply because we misunderstood the speaker? The definition of enun...

No Field Trip for Old Women | WordAbilities Blog

https://wordabilities.wordpress.com/2016/05/12/no-field-trip-for-old-women

May 12, 2016. No Field Trip for Old Women. 8212; WordAbilities @ 1:53 pm. Yesterday I accompanied my fourth-grade granddaughter and her class on a field trip to the Old Courthouse and the Arch in downtown St. Louis. I love filling in for Mom and Dad whenever possible, and I’ve done so at several school events. This one, however, just about did me in. My legs, however, tell a different story. The bus driver had thoughtfully closed all the windows to keep the seats dry, and now it was like a 60-person saun...

What we have here is . . . | WordAbilities Blog

https://wordabilities.wordpress.com/2016/02/03/what-we-have-here-is

February 3, 2016. What we have here is . . . 8212; WordAbilities @ 6:56 pm. 8220;Replacement” seems to be the key word here. The sales rep asked me the problem, and I told her I needed a replacement for my phone because it had stopped working, even after I installed a new battery. What kind do you want? I just want what I have, I responded. What kind of phone is it? So I decided to use my landline to call go phone customer service. That in itself was a challenge. As usual, everything was automate...Fully...

Lost in Translation | WordAbilities Blog

https://wordabilities.wordpress.com/2016/05/26/lost-in-translation

May 26, 2016. 8212; WordAbilities @ 4:47 pm. When we cover writing in my Technical Communication classes, I stress the importance of (1) knowing your subject (obviously), (2) knowing your audience, (3) writing clearly and concisely, and (4) making sure you proofread before publishing. And I’m reminded of the Dairy Council commercial Got Milk? Which when translated for the Mexican market became Are you lactating? Both are great examples that I share with my classes, but I wanted more. The instructions wer...

Present Letters: October 2014

http://lynnobermoeller.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Letters - what's not to love? Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Exclusion of the heart is most painful. That sentence may not have made sense. In other words, when someone doesn't want your love. 8220;He drew a circle that shut me out.”—E. Markham. Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Why do I sing HU everyday? Because it helps center me. It makes my connection with God stronger. It opens my heart. and the benefit of that in itself is, well, beautiful. Some of you might remember my drawing of HU. Guess that covers it...

Present Letters: Lesson One - Fried Chicken, Part Two

http://lynnobermoeller.blogspot.com/2015/07/lesson-one-fried-chicken-part-two.html

Letters - what's not to love? Thursday, July 2, 2015. Lesson One - Fried Chicken, Part Two. If you haven't read, Part One, go here now. We got up, had breakfast and started with figuring out how much time everything was going to take and listing those times to know when to start what. Since we didn’t want to start the chicken until it was closer to time to eat, we began with making the shortcake. Princess Frost couldn’t wait to get her hands on that KitchenAid mixer. Here they are with their prepared pans.

Letters - what's not to love? Monday, June 29, 2015. Lesson One in Cooking: Fried Chicken, Part One. I'm late in posting this (and each lesson will be weeks behind the actual lesson), but here is the first one. You may have read about the Grand Tea Party. 8211; well, these two granddaughters also decided they’d like me to teach them how to cook, so this summer, every week (almost) we will be having cooking lessons. 8221; I was thinking, welcome to my world. 8220;Can we make dessert too? They wanted to ma...

Letters - what's not to love? Sunday, July 12, 2015. Cooking Lesson Two - Lasagna. During this lesson, we had Princess Flame (aka Logan) and her sister, Princess Dragonfly (aka Macy). Princess Frost was unable to make this lesson (sad face), but all three will be there for Lesson Three. I got this recipe for lasagna from my younger sister Ruth, who got it from someone she knew who got it from her grandmother who is from Italy. So there. I think I have that right. Then they simmered their sauce. We got up...

Letters - what's not to love? Friday, January 23, 2015. I just want to apologize to all my blogger friends out there. those who have been gracious enough to read this blog and comment. I have been a blogger slacker. Sometimes I'll take a quick peek at one of the many blogs that I follow, but lately I've been neck deep in stuff. Aren't we all though, too busy? But I have been doing creative stuff too. like writing a letter every day and drawing every day and journaling every day. Friday, January 9, 2015.

Letters - what's not to love? Wednesday, June 24, 2015. My friend, Tina asked if I’d like to volunteer by driving some college students to a few places… they’re cycling from Austin, Texas (hence, the name Texas 4000. To Anchorage, Alaska and had a stopover in St. Louis. The cyclists are students from UT (University of Texas). Check out Texas4000.org. For more info and I guarantee you will be impressed. http://lynnobermoeller.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Letters - what's not to love? Wednesday, November 26, 2014. I’m calling it LynCr8Mo. Lynn Create Month. I looked at my schedule, decided (realistically) how many hours a day (that were available) that I could draw and used that as my overall goal. I had 20 days—turned that into 20 hours—an hour a day. I’m going to create a goal every month. December is going to be a challenge, but I’ll keep the numbers low, and who knows, I may surprise myself. At least there will be some sort of goal. Since I was going to write about two things, I wondered what to title this blog post, and I thought, hmmm interesting—that “behind the scenes” is our “inner guidance.”. Letters - what's not to love? Friday, March 20, 2015. Another Grand Tea Party. I had a tea party for the two granddaughters when they were seven and eight. Now they are 12 and 13. I didn’t think they’d go for it when I suggested we have another tea party, but they were excited about it. This time, we did things a little differently than we did the first time. And you can see how much they have grown since the first time. We then made lipstick to match our outfits. After that, we painted nails. Once the n...

August 26, 2016. Who Will You Vote for: Liver and Onions or Anchovy Pizza? 8212; WordAbilities @ 9:58 am. In a few short months, our country will elect a new leader, a process that takes place every four years. As in years past, many of us feel we’re faced once again with the choice of the lesser of two evils. Having to choose between one candidate with narcissistic personality disorder and no filter and another candidate whose big fat lies keep getting bigger and fatter isn’t much of a choice. 8212; Wor...
