A Seasonal Journey to a Sustainable Life. 8220;If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of a least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.”. 8211; Rachel Carson, naturalist and author. 8220;Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul.” John Muir. 8220;In the end, we conserve only what we love. The shade of the overhanging oak tree kept the temperature perfect, as a quiet breeze passed through the yard. A decorative table was dressed with pink and yellow snapdragons in small crystal bowls set on an ivory white tablecloth, adorned with blue china and fine silver. Stories about Plants and People. What to do with Cabbage. February 10, 2016. February 10, 2016. Cabbage and Veggie Soup. What to do with the cabbage I received in my CSA share. I decided on making a healthy soup; and I also used some of the other vegetables I received from the local farms in the recipe. The soup is very easy to make, with nothing fancy just fresh veggies, chopped up and thrown into a big pot, covered with water and simmered. I used an 8 quart (7.6 liter) pot. 6 carrots, chopped. Banana, ...

https://veggiechronicles.wordpress.com/2010/12/02/main-course-veggies
December 2, 2010 at 10:43 pm. I don’t know about you, but during prime gardening season, I have no problem with the vegetables being the centerpiece of my meals. So after reaping the amazing benefits from my garden, and coming into the house with a basketful of my bountiful harvest, I look forward to a seriously awesome vegetable meal. So, it became my mission of the evening to create a main course veggie meal using the crisp green beans and luscious arugula that I had harvested in abundance! In a large ...

Wednesday, March 26, 2014. An Afternoon with French Breakfast Radishes. No gym this morning and the French press stays where we left it yesterday. It’s Saturday and I’ve been looking forward to the market all week. Jeans on. Teeth brushed. Off we go. We head to my favorite tent, the big one for Worden Farm. I’d braised those more common red, globe-shaped radishes with bacon, but as we made our way from the market to Mazzaro Italian Market. 8220;Try this one with the Sancerre! The French do radishes right...

A Seasonal Journey to a Sustainable Life. Braid it like your hair! This entry was posted on June 24, 2015, in Uncategorized. It’s the second week of summer camp, and 94 degrees Fahrenheit is so much cooler than last week’s 100 degree temperatures. Community farm volunteers harvested garlic last night, so campers braided the stalks for easy hanging. After braiding in the shade the young farmers broad forked row B5 to make sure all garlic cloves were harvested. Many hands sure do make light work! Cool Gree...

Frugal veggies: The carrot - Frugal and Fancy-Free in St. Petersburg
http://frugalandfancyfree.com/frugal-veggies-carrot
Frugal and Fancy-Free in St. Petersburg. November 23, 2013. Frugal veggies: The carrot. November 23, 2013. You can’t buy many veggies at $1.25 for three pounds nowadays, which is what I paid this morning for a bag of carrots at ALDI. The carrot has lots of other virtues too. Not only is it frugal, but it’s full of Vitamin A (good for your eyes), it’s versatile, and like most fruits and veggies, it’s low calorie. At the Saturday Morning Market. Though these seem exotic to us now, word has it. Although car...
