Henry Tracey Coxwell was an English aeronaut, born in Wouldham at the Rectory on the 2nd March 1819. From a young age, Coxwell was very interested in ballooning, which was then in its early stages. He made his first ascent in 1844. Four years later, he became a professional aeronaut, making many public ascents. Major John Blackburn Hart. The remains of Walter Burke at Wouldham Church may be the most well known, but in the centre aisle, forming part of the floor, you can find the grave of Major John Blackburn Hart, who was part of the 95th Regiment ("The Rifles"). The 95th Regiment was the first to carry rifles rather than muskets. Major Hart's tombstone lists the many battles during the Peninsular War in which he was involved in. The most common type of house in Wouldham is a two-up and two-down house, originally built for the cement workers in the village. These terraces were known by their individual terrace name, rather than the High Street as they are today. This also meant that they were numbered from 1 onwards from the left house of that terrace. As an example, 36 High Street today would have been 1 Medway Place previously. I believe this new numbering system came into force during the 1970s. This used to be a row of shops.
