Under the coconut tree: January 2008
http://pokokkelapa.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Under the coconut tree. Friday, January 04, 2008. On our recent trip to China, we were heavily contemplating between a trip to Guilin or to a nearby town, Yangshuo. After much reading and research over the internet, we decided to opt for the later. It's apparently a smaller town, less hectic and touristy. I definitely needed that after living smacked in the hustling and bustling of HK for so many months. We stayed in this quaint little hotel, Yangshuo Riverside Retreat. Sugar cane plantations in abundance.

Under the coconut tree: September 2007

Under the coconut tree. Thursday, September 13, 2007. To market, to market. Hong Kong is definitely a mecca for those who enjoy shopping. It has something for everyone whether it be highly expensive branded goods in huge departmental shops, small boutiques or bargain road side markets. It never fails to amaze me that the shopping outlets are always jam packed with people all day (and night) long! I guess the locals not only work hard but they shop like crazy too! The photos below are taken from Stanley m...

Under the coconut tree. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. KL brought me for a lovely birthday treat to a French restaurant, Le Pont De La Tour. On our short trip back to London last month. It has a lovely view of the Tower Bridge and a nice formal atmosphere. The only complaint I had was the tables were too close to one another. To make matters worse we were seated to a very loud American. Thankfully, he left soon after that we were able to enjoy our meal in peace. Native Oysters No.2. Ee Foo and Tyan.

Under the coconut tree: August 2007
http://pokokkelapa.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Under the coconut tree. Tuesday, August 28, 2007. More on food in HK. We have since gone back to Under the Bridge. Restaurant a couple of times as we really enjoyed the food there. That said, we have not tried their fried garlic with spring onion crab specialty until yesterday. The crabs were good but again, I still prefer the sweet and sour cooking style! Anyway, if you are a fan of tom yum then you're bound to like this dish as much as I do! Saturday, August 25, 2007. Was much better. I cannot real...

Under the coconut tree: October 2007

Under the coconut tree. Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Swimming elephants and floating women. I've always wanted to go to the floating market but never realised that it was a 2-hour drive away from Bangkok! It was definitely a long (and early) ride for a market that opens for less than half a day. The four ladies taking a break by the canal to catch up on gossips. A scene of the floating market. Traffic jam at the canals. We stopped over at Saiyok Elephant Park before making our way to the Tiger Temple. ...

Under the coconut tree. Wednesday, November 25, 2009. We're back .(with a new addition! Time flies … I didn’t realise that it has been over a year since my last post. During this time, KL and I has since started new jobs, bought a flat, car and had a baby (all in that order). So, it has been a busy and exciting time for the Wong family. We have now settled into more-a-less routine with baby Ian and hope to introduce him the joys of travelling! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ee Foo and Tyan.

Under the coconut tree: June 2007
http://pokokkelapa.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Under the coconut tree. Monday, June 25, 2007. It was a terribly long flight from Miami to Lima. It didn't help that our flight was a couple of hours delayed. Arriving slightly dazed in Lima, we took the next flight out to Cusco. KL and I were sick the first few days - we were confined mostly in the hostal. That said, those knowing KL - we did still managed to get some nice chinese takeaway nearby to compensate for the pain and suffering. Plaza de Armas - at the main square of the city. One of my many fa...

Under the coconut tree: July 2007
http://pokokkelapa.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Under the coconut tree. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. I've (or should I say KL bought me) finally got a myself a brand new toy, a Canon S5 IS. My old Canon Powershot A80 died on me when we were in Argentina. And around the same time, KL's SLR got stolen. Talk about coincidence! Anyway, we've been living off a very basic digital camera which we bought in Patagonia for a very high cost. Over the weekend, we took the new camera for a walkabout. Here are some shots round the corner from where we live. 3 weeks at w...
