Life in España: September 2010
http://bgsevilla.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Orientation was frustrating in a way, however, because people here are placed all over Andalucía, so it has been really hard to meet people who will still be in the city after tomorrow. So far we’ve met 4 other girls in Sevilla who we will hopefully be able to keep in touch with! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Random Musings from a seemingly silent mouth. Staying in one place for a little while (well sort of.). Mi vida en españa. La Feria de Abril.

Life in España: November 2010

Friday, November 26, 2010. 161;El agua está saliendo de la pared! My friends and I decided that, despite being in a country where they don’t know the meaning of the word Thanksgiving, we were going to try our darndest to create a Thanksgiving dinner. Armed with our shopping list, Rachel, Julia and I headed to el Corte and successfully found almost everything we were looking for. But the trip was a success, minus gravy and apple cider. Of course, Julia’s house doesn’t have a toaster, so we beg...Whenever ...

Life in España: December 2010

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Teaching 6th graders how to dance hip hop. Before leaving for Boston tomorrow, I thought I would update once more on the Spanish holiday season. Before Christmas, Spaniards all eat dulces called Mantecados and drink shots of Anis, which tastes like licorice. Rachel, Rachel’s sister Liza, and I went to Antonia’s for lunch the other day where we were introduced to all of these Spanish Christmas goodies. Finally finding a bottle, they gave her grandmother her final shot of Anis.

Sunday, October 24, 2010. Making Spain Awkward. one thumbs up at a time. I have to start this post off with one word: Cockroaches. As in yes, we have cockroaches in our bathroom. Last weekend, I was the first to stumble upon a cockroach as it scampered out of the tub. Needless to say, I ran screaming out of the bathroom to get away from it. Rachel and I returned only seconds later armed with sturdy shoes as weapons for a showdown. The cockroach at this point was long gone. I’m realizing more and mo...

Life in España: Looking Back on 8 Months in Spain

Monday, May 23, 2011. Looking Back on 8 Months in Spain. Until I feared losing it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.". While recently reading To Kill a Mockingbird, this quote struck me. Sometimes you never realize how much you love something until you have to let it go. It didn’t hit me how much this sentiment rings true, however, until I was faced with an abrupt realization: I have only two more weeks in Sevilla before having to say goodbye. But when I think of all I have accomplished...

Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Journey to the End of the World: Lagos. 8221; Teetering on the edge, the only choices we could see were put the car in neutral and push, or put it back in reverse and step on it, hoping for the best. We chose the latter. Putting the car back in reverse, Rachel timidly released the brake, sending us forward again. Thankfully, amidst screams of "IT'S IN R! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Life in España: Semana Santa at Maria Zambrano

Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Semana Santa at Maria Zambrano. Nazarenos in the parade. At this point the kids were goners – standing up on their chairs to look at the musicians outside. The band then entered the school and marched through the hallways playing traditional Semana Santa music. The kids and I all ran to the door to have a look. I at least had an excuse to look – it was my first time ever seeing this happen! Kids watching the parade. Little ones holding the insense. Waving to the audience. Tell ...

Life in España: My Favorite Week in Sevilla
http://bgsevilla.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-favorite-week-in-sevilla.html
Monday, May 9, 2011. My Favorite Week in Sevilla. Just the very words bring excitement to my ears. Feria is a place to see and be seen – an old tradition of women dressing up in trajes de gitana. And men in suits and caballero hats. Little children run through bright crowds in their adorable little outfits, while decorated horses pull carriages through the tent-lined streets. Everyone who is anyone in Sevilla has access to a caseta. Tents ranging in size offering food, drink, music and dancing. You are u...
