Rococo Atelier: March 2014
http://rococoatelier.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 29, 2014. Some paintings just need more love. You know that moment when you stumble upon a gorgeous painting that you haven't seen before? It happened to me today and I immediately felt like sharing this lovely piece of art with everyone. Portrait of a Lady with her Son (ca. 1792), attributed to Adolf Ulrik Wertmüller. And doesn't that dress remind you of the one Marie Antoinette wore for this painting? Marie Antoinette with two of her children (1785) by Adolf Ulrik Wertmüller. Ninya Mikh...
Rococo Atelier: November 2013
http://rococoatelier.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 25, 2013. Sneak peeking the robe à la Française. The silk organza trim is actually striped. I was a bit disappointed to notice the stripes are barely visible once the trim was stitched to the dress. Oh well. at least the fabric was easy to cut straight. I'm not particularly fond of the too synthetic looking lace on the neckline but it can be easily replaced as soon as I find something more suitable. Monday, November 25, 2013. Ivory robe à la Française. Robe à la Française. Quaintrelle Li...

Rococo Atelier: June 2013
http://rococoatelier.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 7, 2013. Early costumes: Floral robe à l'Anglaise, 2009. If I remember correctly, the original pattern is based on a pattern in the book Period Costume for Stage and Screen by Jean Hunnisett. As many of you can tell, the trimming style is based on a polonaise dress c. 1770-85 from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 1. Because of having worn this dress to events before, I let the hem fall down instead of pulling the skirt up. Then the en fourreau back was attached to the lining. The lace ruff...

Rococo Atelier: January 2013
http://rococoatelier.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 20, 2013. Pocket hoops and petticoats for 1760's and 1770's. And then, the first petticoat. It turned out to be shorter than I intended but it does the job so I don't mind. And second petticoat which was made a year ago. From an earlier garment. It seems the beginning of this post is almost a repetition from the post linked. I didn't remember I had just the same motivation issue in January 2012. Sunday, January 20, 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Napoleon and T...

Common Products With Uncommon Uses. Friday, December 5th, 2014 Gardening. Using the handle of a broom or mop is an easy way to unclog a sink drain or reactivate a trash disposal that has jammed. Small nail holes can be patched with toothpaste rather than a combination of silica flour. And other concentrated dusting compounds. These rather unorthodox solutions are usually effective, at least in the short run, and make the home presentable for parties and other entertainment purposes. Why Did You Say That?
