#15 "Bear vs Shark" by Chris Bachelder: 50books

http://50books.livejournal.com/69232.html

15 "Bear vs Shark" by Chris Bachelder. This book was like a carnival side show. All hype, all buildup. And then when the ending came? It was just a guy sitting at a table eating a plate of chicken. It was a real shame, too, because some parts of this book were dead on. The last 40 pages were just dead, though. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. #6 "The Graveyard Book" - Neil Gaiman: 50books

http://50books.livejournal.com/66742.html

6 "The Graveyard Book" - Neil Gaiman. I really loved this book. Since I saw Gaiman on "The Colbert Report", I've wanted to read it, and now that it's over, I'm saddened that there's no more. I could read books and books about Nobody Owens, and I want more. This book was masterful. It really was, and I think it ranks above most of his work. Even Stardust, even Good Omens, even Neverwhere and American Gods. It's that good. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post.

#7 "Thunderball" - Ian Flemming: 50books

http://50books.livejournal.com/67003.html

7 "Thunderball" - Ian Flemming. Sat on my shelf for a couple of years, but I wanted some light summer reading. I liked this one, it was fun, not terribly dated. Usually, when reading Bond novels, I can separate them from the actors, but this one read very much like it was Sean Connery. Also, I thought it could be updated rather well for a movie in this day and age. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. Hey guys. Some of you know that I have a community (. For people I know IRL who want to read 50 books in a year, to chronicle their reading experiences. If you would like to join this community, the easiest way to do so is to click the 'join' button on the community info page. This will send me your request, which I can then approve. The reason I did this was that a previous community created for the same purpose got HUGE and impersonal. Aha, fixed. The info above is now true. Post a new comment.

Writers of Color 50 Book Challenge

Upgrade to paid account and never see ads again! Writers of Color 50 Book Challenge. Book 18: I Wish I Had a Red Dress by Pearl Cleage. May 14th, 9:58. My third romance for this project was I Wish I Had a Red Dress. I found it on a list of African-American romances,. But honestly I feel this particular book was more of a novel than a romance. An excellent novel, too, definitely the best of the romance-themed books I've tried so far for this project. Read my full review here! May 6th, 16:31. May 6th, 15:52.

50 Books

One woman. One year. Countless distractions. Wednesday, May 15, 2013. It's good to be home! Let's have a party! I love classic Little Golden Books. We tend to think about old-timey morals as being all hardass, but when you really examine these books, the message is more like "Do what you feel like, kids! There'll be parties and cake! As a parent, I disapprove. As a human being, I'm totally down with this. First, let's talk about The Poky Little Puppy. What's the lesson here? First, take a gander at old C...

Memoir of a Bibliophile. Concise reviews from a mind that befits reading and reflecting. The Maze Runner (trilogy). The Maze Runner (trilogy). Dystopia, Science Fiction, Young Adult. Futuristic, post-apocalyptic America. I have read beautiful prose that couldn’t keep me engaged because the plot was lacking. And how did it get published! 1) If the purpose was to ensure population control, why create a virus that makes people go insane and slowly die (not necessarily by deceased state but by getting killed...

Fifty Books for Fifty Bucks

Fifty Books for Fifty Bucks. No, you don't have to pay the fifty bucks. I already did. Saturday, February 12, 2011. A Measure of All Things," by Ian Whitelaw. Humanity loves to quantify things. Measurement is a way of exerting order over an essentially chaotic environment. From the earliest days, we have sought ways to nail down just how big, or long, or tall, or fast, etc., something is. It’s a subject capable both of being fascinating and of being deadly dull. On the shelf instead? Nibbling on a Ruler.
