Whales, check | Observations of a News Junkie

Observations of a News Junkie. November 2, 2013 at 9:00 am ( To do before I die. 90 Go whale watching. I had the best birthday ever this year. Not only was I a newly married woman, but my fantastic husband decided we should go whale watching to mark the date of my entrance into the world. No argument here. It was roughly an hour-long trip through deep blue waves and past the rolling green mountains of Maine’s coast. The sunny afternoon at sea also included sightings of porpoises and a host of grey seals ...

Barefoot wedding, check | Observations of a News Junkie

Observations of a News Junkie. Barefoot wedding, check. October 28, 2013 at 6:18 pm ( To do before I die. 7 Get married barefoot. I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a hippie at my core at least when it comes to footwear. I avoid shoes at all costs, and I wear flip flops from April to November or longer, if possible. So it’s always been my intention to be married in my bare feet. And despite the damp, chilly weather on September 21, I did just that. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Observations of a News Junkie. Polar plunge, check. December 6, 2012 at 9:06 am ( Random. 91 Do a polar bear dip. Note: I plan to return to this blog to provide details of most epic of adventures, specifically those that allow me to cross another item off my life to-do list. To be honest, I was more nervous about this one than most of the other crazy things I’ve done. Diving out of a plane? But leaping into a freezing body of water? Um … painful. But it wasn’t as shocking or terrible as I expected&...

The GM's Blog: February 2010
http://mattcoxgm.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 11, 2010. Season #1: Gretchen Cordy. Season #2: Michael Skupin. Too easy. Fell in the effing fire, burned his hands. His tribe would have been up 6-4, they would have rolled to the finals, and he would have won. "Hands down". Season #3: Brandon Quinton. Flamboyantly gay, fit into his tribe quite nicely, won a reward date with an army dude, hilariously couldn't fire a bow and arrow, would have made for compelling TV this time around. Season #4: Sean Rector. Season #5: Jake Billingsley.

G'Day From The Valley: 50 cents? I call BS!
http://gdayfromthevalley.blogspot.com/2012/03/50-cents-i-call-bs.html
Here we'll focus on life in the Ottawa Valley - and we'll do it with a sense of humour. Valley folk are proud of where they call home. They work hard, play hard, love their weekends and their toys. AND they love to laugh. Even at themselves. Enjoy this little slice of Valley life. through the eyes of a true Valley boy. Wednesday, March 7, 2012. And it doesn't have to be something done to us personally - we will join a cause if we feel something isn't fair or just. And timelines mean nothing. Sidenote: Va...

Double Nut Flush Draw: March 2009
http://doublenutflushdraw.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 20, 2009. Because all I have are bad beat stories. I've been busy recently, and haven't played much poker, but I did manage to get into a tourney yesterday. The usual $6/90 player kind I always play, and although I made it quite far, I ended up with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. 10-J-6, with no flush draw. I'm first to act, and not really sure how I feel about this flop, but unless he has 10s or Jacks, I'm likely still ahead, so I bet out about half the pot-size. Seems again like...

Double Nut Flush Draw: December 2010
http://doublenutflushdraw.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 14, 2010. When the Stars Align. It doesn't happen too often, but every once in a while I have a night where it just seems I can do no wrong. a Friday night cash game proved to be one of those times, but I had to overcome some early adversity to make it happen. With the blinds 25/50 cents, I buy in for $40, and turn that into $75 within the first 10 hands. I had hit a few flops, and bought a few nice pots, but nothing significant happened until I ran into a very tough situation. A little...

Double Nut Flush Draw: December 2009
http://doublenutflushdraw.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Finally some time, and some luck. As with ever tournament, there always seems to be 1 or 2 significant hands that either knock you out of contention, or put you in a very good position to win. Both tournaments had such hands. Now down to the final 6, the blinds are getting pretty steep, and my chip stack is about average. The guy I played that previous hand against made a nice comeback, and is the clear chip leader. UTG. Was beaten by my A-10. Holding K-Q, UTG. I bet half of...
