Speculative Fiction Reviews and Things. The Magician King by Lev Grossman. June 20, 2015. July 26, 2015. Lev Grossman’s The Magicians is one of the most divisive novels in the genre. Most readers either love it or hate it, with scant few somewhere in between. I found that I really enjoyed it, despite Quentin being a whiny, miserable, and wholly unlikable piece of shit. It takes a truly talented author to write such a […]. When the Heavens Fall by Marc Turner. May 26, 2015. June 26, 2016. May 21, 2015.

A Recipe of Philosophy. Adventures in Feeding Graduate Students. The Best Date EVER, (and how you can have one too! July 30, 2012. Standards are difficult things to maintain. But there is no reason why taking chance should involve lowering the bar. Have you ever had a really bad date? Or even a simply mediocre date? A BITTER LEGACY
A Documentary by Claudia Katayanagi. The Japanese American incarceration camps are a widely known shame. Less known is that some camps were secret prisons to isolate US citizen troublemakers from other prisoners. This film looks at those Citizen Isolation Centers , now considered to be precursors to Guantanamo, and examines the similarities to issues facing us today, regarding racism, immigration restrictions and the denigration of entire peoples based on their race, religion and ethnic background.
