For Such a Time as This. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. A Holiday and a New Home. So, the big exciting thing I spoke about in the last post was a wee holiday. I have never taken a vacation with a group of friends before and if that isn’t fun enough, we got to spend it in Zanzibar (don’t worry supporters, it was mostly my own savings that paid for the trip). J. If you’re at all interested, you can see some pictures here. The one my friends and I found last August? This next month and a half could be a littl...

For Such a Time as This. Saturday, March 22, 2014. Oh, The Shame. I have been learning a lot lately about what it means to let things go. I don’t have a problem with change, where I struggle is when I have an idea (or an ideal) in my head that doesn’t pan out the way I anticipated…”But, but, that’s not how it was supposed to be! That is just one example, but the point is, I am learning…. To go on safari. There are probably more things I could share but I filled nearly two pages and it is time to end.

For Such a Time as This: April 2015

For Such a Time as This. Friday, April 17, 2015. Year 3.The Beginning. It continually blows my mind how fast time goes by here. It literally disappears, but looking back, it always feels like so much has happened. Although it was hard to leave my family after Christmas, the transition back was the easiest so far. I think it was because I was expecting it to be hard whereas in the past it always caught me by surprise. I know that sounds strange, that it was easier but also. It’s been a month since I...

For Such a Time as This: August 2013

For Such a Time as This. Saturday, August 31, 2013. Looking back, I am having a hard time believing it’s been 2 whole months since my last post. Where on earth does the time go? So, how to summarize the last 2 months without writing a novel…I’ll just stick with the really good parts. A few weeks ago, a team from my church came to spend a couple weeks in Mpigi. 8221;, we had a great time seeing the source of Nile, monkeys, a plethora of birds and even monitor lizards. The team having dinner together.

For Such a Time as This. Saturday, June 22, 2013. 8220;Besides food and buildings, what do you miss most about home? That's what our counselor, Sam, asked me a couple weeks ago during the long drive to Kampala. Without having to think about it, I told him that significantly more than either of those things, what I have the hardest time leaving behind is security; good healthcare, ambulances, police that I can put my trust in. After I explained this, he thought for a moment and responded,. I recently had ...

For Such a Time as This. Saturday, March 30, 2013. First on the list is my scooter. In the words of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…” The convenience is just the icing on the cake. My scooter and I have become one; when I’m driving around Jinja being laughed at by the Ugandans and spitting out bugs, I love my life so completely. Let’s be real, it’s just plain fun. Now to pick my 2. Person…names in a hat to avoid having to choose maybe? 8221; Without missing a beat, ...

For Such a Time as This. Saturday, October 19, 2013. The next day, we left camp at 6:30am to catch a ferry into Murchison Park and enjoyed a long morning driving along the labyrinth of dirt roads that weave through the 3840 square kms of the park. It wasn’t long before our cameras were glued to our faces taking shots of giraffes, warthogs, elephants, buffalo, hippos and all sorts of antelope. Concerning the music, was there every any question? For Such a Time as This: Ebbs and Flows
http://stacydryfhout.blogspot.com/2014/08/ebbs-and-flows.html
For Such a Time as This. Wednesday, August 13, 2014. I have been called out…. I went down to Mpigi to see the Peace Portal team a week ago and I was told that more than one person back home asked them to get on my case about the significant lack of blog posts. Guilty…and the more time that goes by, the harder it is to be motivated to document my life; but I do recognize the importance of staying connected with the people that love and support me so, again, I am sorry. We got a cat, her name is Molly.

For Such a Time as This. Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Boats, Storms and Stuff. The question, “Which season is it? Kate and I ran outside with jugs and basins and positioned ourselves near a gutter by the front door that flows with a certain exuberance during a heavy rain, doing our best to funnel the water; well, I did my best to funnel the water, Kate took pictures. By the time it slowed to a steady shower, we were plenty wet but incredibly satisfied with our ingenuity. Just a man fishing on the shore.
