accumulata: June 2010

http://accumulata.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Where too much is not enough. Thursday, June 3, 2010. I Love My City. Went to the Art Institue last week to see the Matisse show. The AIC Lions were doing cos play in honor of the Chicago Blackhawks. Wonder if they have all manner of costumes in stock and they just send a call to wardrobe to bring out the helmets? I think the guy is touching the lion for luck. Then I went to the Chicago Cultural Center and happened to get this postcard view of Millenium Park from the window upstairs.

Where too much is not enough. Sunday, March 28, 2010. People who collect really are from a different planet. Start Your Own Collection: Leave The Driving to Us. Of course, you are going to start with my items. Then you can add this great bus-meets-grasshopper-head-on vintage card. From Etsy seller, PostsfromthePast. Wish they had a better photo, but it's very kitchy in a good way. Or, kickoff your collection with this vintage Greyhound Bus ad. From Etsy seller, thebabykitties. Friday, March 26, 2010.

Where too much is not enough. Sunday, January 4, 2009. These ceramic heads reside in the pigeonhole cubbies of an old hotel mail shelf which hangs in my dining room. I like the sense of past and present and future, looking forward to a new start of the year. Focus forward. My motto for 2009. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). American Gothic with Elk. There was an error in this gadget. March 14, 2010. The Amazing Mr. Forgue - Part 1. The Amazing Mr. Forgue" is how Norman W. Forgue is described by R. Hunter Middleton, one of the finest practitioners of the book arts in the past century. Who is Norman W. Forgue? I asked the same question about 10 years ago when I picked up and read a copy of Poorer Richard. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Amazing Mr. Forgue - Part 1. The Amazing Mr. Forgue - Part 2. There was an error in this gadget. March 16, 2010. The Amazing Mr. Forgue - Part 2. Starting a bibliography of printed works looks easy; just collect all the printed works that Norman W. Forgue produced, printed, published, designed, etc. Simple? One of the consequences of starting a project like this, is that little interesting side paths appear without warning which demand attention. Little other information was available. Technology/politics/design/commentary/ things pile up. Adam Smith, via Amartya Sen. Amartya Sen’s fantastic historical grounding in the New York Review of Books. Is a great lens through which to see the search for “new capitalism” that has recently infected international dialogue. In particular, he makes an excellent case for the farsightedness and candor present in the reasoning and writings of capitalism’s forefather. The limit of open market economics.
