Adirondack Hiker

Thursday, September 27, 2007. This one was my first winter hike in the Adirondacks, and it took place in February with my brother Adam. My previous winter hiking experience consisted of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire - a decent amount of elevation, but a fairly short amount of distance (but damn cold at the summit). We headed back out again the same day. I haven't yet ventured to do the winter camping. One of these days when we pick up a four-season tent that may change. Posted by mjr at 11:10 PM. For n...

http://adirondackhiker.blogspot.com/2006/10/indian-head-part-2-sawteeth.html

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Indian Head - Part 2 (Sawteeth). Although this posting is several months delayed - here it is. Posted by mjr at 9:48 PM. Here I will be posting tales and information about hiking in the Adirondack high peaks region. If you're a fellow hiker, feel free to contribute. Vincent f. a. golphin. Indian Head - Part 1. The Great Range (Part 6) - The Failed Crossing. The Great Range (Part 5) - Ore Bed Brook Trail. The Great Range (Part 4) - Gothics. The Great Range (Part 3) - Armstrong.

Adirondack Hiker: October 2006

http://adirondackhiker.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Indian Head - Part 3 (Pyramid and Gothics). So we stopped up here for about 30 minutes for another boots-off-beef-jerky break as we took in the surroundings. One really could spend hours on end up here. It's another point in the Adirondacks that must be seen. Hunkered down here, the thunder bellowed and echoed off the surrounding mountains. I don't know exactly where the lightning was hitting at this point, but at least we couldn't see it from our position. Indian Head - Part 1.

Adirondack Hiker: The Great Range (Part 3) - Armstrong

http://adirondackhiker.blogspot.com/2006/05/great-range-part-3-armstrong.html

Tuesday, May 09, 2006. The Great Range (Part 3) - Armstrong. One section of snowy trail between Upper Wolfjaw and Armstrong. We didn't get any pictures of the difficult portions of the climb. We were too busy trying not to slide down sheets of ice. (5/6/06, 1:51 pm). Us on the summit of Armstrong. This captures the moment quite well. (5/6/06, 2:27 pm). Another shot of Gothics from our momentary break in the clouds. (5/6/06, 3:10 pm). Posted by mjr at 4:26 PM. Vincent f. a. golphin.

Adirondack Hiker: April 2006

http://adirondackhiker.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 28, 2006. This post marks the creation of my Adirondack hiking blog. The idea is to provide a place where hikers (and would be hikers) can get information about possible trails and climbs in the Adirondack high peaks region. Now you might ask, that's nice and all, but can't I just search Google and find all of this information already? Posted by mjr at 4:16 PM. Vincent f. a. golphin. Interactive High Peaks Map. Indian Head - Part 4 (Back Home). Indian Head - Part 3 (Pyramid and Gothics).

Adirondack Hiker: The Great Range (Part 1) - Ore Bed Lean-to

http://adirondackhiker.blogspot.com/2006/05/great-range-part-1-ore-bed-lean-to.html

Monday, May 08, 2006. The Great Range (Part 1) - Ore Bed Lean-to. I just finished my latest Adirondack hike this past weekend. Unfortunately, the hike was poorly planned from the beginning and it only got worse as time went on. I'll just start from the beginning. They got about an hour and a half of sleep before we got ready to set off on the real hike. This I will discuss more later. For now, here's some pictures of this first leg of the journey and our camp. Posted by mjr at 2:42 PM.

Adirondack High

Saturday, September 16, 2006. The sun finally came out from the low-hanging clouds today to give my group from Long Island some beautiful fall foliage views from Crane Mountain. They were such a fun group (2 couples) that I hated saying goodbye when the trip was over. The sun is very low in the sky and is shining on the sugar maple outside my office window right now- red, orange, yellow, and green all lit up- so beautiful! Posted by Judith at 5:15 PM. Saturday, September 02, 2006. Nights have been cool, ...

Lampson falls, in the Town of Clare is our go to short, easy, walk in the woods, with a great payoff. We have been here on probably 10 different occasions, but we enjoy it every time.
