课程设立后，依托学科雄厚的师资力量，在美学基础理论建设方面勤力耕耘，蒋孔阳先生的 德国古典美学 ， 先秦音乐美学思想论稿 ， 美与美的创造 ，由其任主编、朱立元任副主编的 19世纪西方美学名著选 上下册 、 20世纪西方美学名著选 上下册 ，朱立元撰写的 黑格尔美学论稿 、 接受美学 ，与张德兴合著的 现代西方美学流派述评 等影响甚众，为美学课教学积淀了厚实的知识基础。 蒋孔阳先生撰写的 美在创造中 ，与朱立元联合主编的 西方美学通史 七卷本 ，朱立元、张德兴等撰写的 现代西方美学史 、 美学与实践 ，郑元者的 艺术之根 艺术起源学引论 等，特别是蒋孔阳先生撰写、由人民文学出版社出版的教材 美学新论 ，在国内影响甚大 除此之外，朱立元主编的 美学原理 ，也被列为全国自学考试通用教材。 特别是由朱立元主编的 美学 教育部面向21世纪课程教材 2001年由高等教育出版社出版，2007年又作了较大修改，出了修订版，反响良好，为国内100多所大学广泛使用，受到普遍欢迎，是目前国内影响最大的美学教材之一。
