A Good Scottish Name

Tuesday, March 12, 2013. I have gone very quiet on the blog lately. There are a variety of factors playing into that bit but it mainly stems from having a very active toddler (a full-fledged two year old! A spouse who seems to spend most of his time on airplanes these days, no family support here, my desire to attempt to continue a career outside the house which requires a terrible commute, and general life obligations and house upkeep that seem to keep me busier than I could have ever imagined right now.

A Good Scottish Name: January 2012

http://agoodscottishname.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 22, 2012. How long is too long? How long is too long to be an expat? I realize some people and families make a career out of it and are happy to do so for a very long time. I still unsure that we could be one of those families however we have already extended our tour of expatriate life longer than we ever thought we would. That answer is unknown. It was the scenario we heard over and over again. "I was offered an expat assignment in X location for 2 years, and we loved it so much, it...

A Good Scottish Name: March 2012

http://agoodscottishname.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 27, 2012. It's been an adjustment for all of us, most especially for me since during that time I have gone back to work and am trying to balance the work/mom roles while not having the daily support from my husband in a physical sense to pitch in with childcare and/or daily life tasks. I am learning my way as a single parent during the week and dare I even say at this point now, nearly a full 3 months into it, I can say it is sometimes easier to manage certain things when Scott is away?

A Good Scottish Name: The Olympic Torch

http://agoodscottishname.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-olympic-torch.html

Friday, July 27, 2012. The Olympics are about to start here in the UK. Technically they are "in London," but actually there are a few events spaced throughout the country. Some events are happening fairly close to where we live but they are no. T sports of great interest to us so we did not go out of our way to obtain tickets. A few weeks ago the torch was coming straight through our little town - and not only through our town, but it was being carried down the street at the end of our block! Crosby's at...

A Good Scottish Name: December 2011

http://agoodscottishname.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 22, 2011. Where visiting Santa has become more commercialized in the mall as opposed to just the Grotto area within one department store. Upon arrival and while we waited in line, Crosby was very busy watching all of the other people in line and at the mall. She brought along her favorite stuffed animal to keep her company. Almost to the front of the line with Gram, Crosby seemed to really like watching the other children go visit Santa. And then there were screams and tears. Sorry San...

See the heart shape in the pit of the squash? Hehe We were too excited to taste the salad for me to remember to take a picture of it.which seems to happen more often then not, whoops! I’ve been trying a few new recipes a week and I thought maybe I’d start sharing some of my favorites! Plus healthy, fairly easy to make and inexpensive!

Around the World in 180 Days. A journey across the Atlantic and into matrimony. TXT March 28, 2010. Filed under: daily life. 8212; rhet @ 12:13 pm. Brits are text crazy. I noticed this first when I moved here and all of the plans the hubby made with friends were via text. Obviously, Americans text a lot too. For example, one of my friends from high school sent enough messages to win $10,000 from AT&T in a texting contest. The hubby and I were even able to donate to the British charity S port Relief.

Around the World in 180 Days. A journey across the Atlantic and into matrimony. NYC Part 1: Funkytown October 4, 2010. 8212; rhet @ 9:14 pm. Where my family vacations tend to be the ‘lounge by the beach’ types, T’s family goes for the ‘itinerary full to the max’ variety. Our all yellow bathroom, complete with floor to ceiling glass wall in the shower! Another one of my favorite things about the area was Babycakes Bakery. So with no more windows to put a box in, we scrounged around for anything to stick them in and came up with mason jars and teacups to a pretty lovely result if I do say so myself! It only took more than a dozen phone calls to the letting agency’s maintenance department. And we’ve finally acquired a toaster! That does look ...

I know it’s been a while folks, I kind of lost my zeal as is wont to happen to us mercurial Geminis, but as my 1 year anniversary of being in the UK approaches, I thought I’d pop back in and update! I absolutely love a few Hobnobs. With a cup of tea on a rainy day, lemon curd. On toast and a steamy steak and ale pie. I wish we had a picture of u...

It dawned on me the other day when I was thinking about how something as simple as a haircut could demonstrate ones class here. With certain styles, sporting X cut means you are of X class. I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule, but generally if you wear a c. Chav is a term applied to certain young people in the United Kingdom. The stereotypi...

An expat in England who occasionally misses Chicago. The Right To Bare One’s Arms. Asymp; 4 Comments. Or are they cameras with a phone feature really? Per se, I have nothing against The Pose. I just don’t think it is an entirely flattering stance or look to affect, at any age:. 2 The pose doesn’t look good on college kids and younger adult women either, especially if they do it ALL THE TIME. Diane Von Furstenberg once tweeted the advice that the hands on hip look makes one look like a starlet, ...3 The p...

An expat in England who occasionally misses Chicago. Lost In Translation, Yet Again. Life On The Road. Asymp; 4 Comments. Once in a while the strangest blonde moment creeps up — no offense to the blondes, just using it as a cliche — that truly embarrasses me. We were driving along the dusty backroads of the French countryside (Normandie! When the Hubby looks skywards sharply, poin ts a finger, and says “Hawk! Me (puzzled and looking up): PORK? An expat in England who occasionally misses Chicago. NEW LIST FOR 2015. 1 THE MINIATURIST by Jessie Burton. Fiction. This book is good exercise for your imagination.
