Spending a year in France – doing nothing and everything! Laquo; Full circle. The end of the good life. Posted July 16, 2010 by Administrator in Experiences. Then lying in bed, wondering what to do with my day. Task of the Day. Surfing the Internet, aimlessly. Sourcing for recipes, and trying them out. Getting good deals at Carrefour. Looking for new books to read, reading them. Making vacation plans, almost continuously. No stress, no rush, no bosses, no staff. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your ema...
June | 2010 | Parlez-vous anglais?
https://agoodyearinfrance.wordpress.com/2010/06
Spending a year in France – doing nothing and everything! Archive for June, 2010. Posted by Administrator in Eating Out. Today, I made probably my last trip into Paris (we will go through Paris on the way to the airport tomorrow and on the way back after Scandinavia, but that doesn’t really count, right? During my 9 months here. Which offers a 88E 4-course set lunch menu. A pretty good deal by Parisien 3-star standards – especially when you consider that its dinner menus range from 199 to 299E! For the 1...
L’Angelus, Barbizon | Parlez-vous anglais?

Spending a year in France – doing nothing and everything! Laquo; New neighbours. L’Angelus, Barbizon. Posted September 11, 2009 by Administrator in Eating Out. So after a week of eating normally (e.g. fresh baguette sandwiches for lunch, my very unorthodox home-style cooking for dinners), we had dinner out at L’Angelus in Barbizon on the Friday night before I returned home, ostensibly to celebrate Z’s birthday (‘coz the poor boy will be all alone in FB then). Am all excited just thinking about all the go...

Spending a year in France – doing nothing and everything! Laquo; Graduation bubbly. Last post from ‘home’. Posted July 7, 2010 by Administrator in Experiences. Tomorrow morning, Z will be sending the ADSL equipment back to the service provider, leaving us with no phone/Internet for the rest of Thursday and Friday morning (though we are planning to leave at about 830am) before we head off to the airport. We were concerned that all the restaurants would be booked up, but we managed to get our first choice!
Oslo: only ordinary | Parlez-vous anglais?
https://agoodyearinfrance.wordpress.com/2010/07/06/oslo-only-ordinary
Spending a year in France – doing nothing and everything! Laquo; Mountains: mighty and magnificent. Posted July 6, 2010 by Administrator in Experiences. After the amazing fjords and mountains, it would be pretty unreasonable to expect Oslo to top the past 4 days. Plus, Z and I had been ‘forewarned’ by his Norwegian coursemates that Oslo is just so-so, which helped to moderate our expectations. Plus, the good weather helped (as always). Our first feel of Oslo was the pedestrianised Karl Johans Gate. Edvar...

Dancing elephant: Ethan eats steak at Lawry's (Pictorial)
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2012/03/ethan-eats-steak-at-lawrys-pictorial.html
Sunday, March 25, 2012. Ethan eats steak at Lawry's (Pictorial). So mummee says, since I am well-behaved, I now get to go out to nice restaurants with mummee and daddeedee. Hmm, i must look as sweet and innocent as possible so i can go out more often! I love prime rib steak! No rubbishy minced beef for me, only babies eat that. More, daddeedee, more! No, it's not my birthday but I don't know why the cake is right in front of me. It's daddeedee's birthday! Details on the food experience at Lawry's here.
Dancing elephant: Back from Macau

Saturday, April 21, 2012. Mummee and daddeedee brought me to Macau last weekend! I had such a fun time and I learnt how to say "egg tart". These are so yummy! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Dancing elephant: Novus (guest post by W)
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2011/10/novus-guest-post-by-w.html
Saturday, October 15, 2011. Novus (guest post by W). Note: I ambitiously booked three restaurants for Restaurant Week, and this is the story of the second restaurant. Guest-written by my lovely friend W. Turned out to be quite a modern looking restaurant (a little strange, considering it's situated in the National Museum! Z and I both enjoyed our meal, and more importantly, felt that the restaurant had gone to great lengths to make the dining experience a lovely one. For each of the courses, the rest...
Dancing elephant: Taiwan A-Sha Noodles
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2012/04/taiwan-sha-noodles.html
Thursday, April 5, 2012. These instant noodles are all the rage in Taiwan.they are apparently so popular that you can only buy them online, and it takes one month to arrive because of the long waiting list (they limit production to maintain quality). Being curious, I made an order for a few packets to see what all the fuss was about. Including shipping costs, the final damage came up to about SGD2 per pack. Spicy, szechuan peppercorn. Is sticky about bringing food products into Singapore! Opus Bar and Gr...
Dancing elephant: Cassis, Rochester Park
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2008/06/cassis-rochester-park.html
Sunday, June 22, 2008. Cassis, Rochester Park. I chanced across this restaurant quite by accident, when I was trying desperately to find a suitable place to hold a work event. Cassis, in the almost-hip-and-happening Rochester Park, had just opened its doors for three months and was helmed by a very young chef Eric Cuilbert who had earned one Michelin star in his former establishment. Add to that the very friendly and professional service in making arrangments for the event (private room? Travel - Siem Re...
Dancing elephant: Seb's Bistro, Rochester Park
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2012/03/sebs-bistro-rochester-park.html
Saturday, March 10, 2012. Seb's Bistro, Rochester Park. Sebastian's at Greenwood Park was one of the restaurants that I had wanted to eat at but didn't get the chance to before it closed down a few years ago. So when I heard that Sebastian Reuiller had opened a new place at Rochester Park, I jumped at the chance to check it out. Located on the premises of the now (alas! Even better was the weekend roast. A darn good prime rib roast, pink and delightfully succulent, beefy and savoury. Good Eats - Snacks.
Dancing elephant: Le Saint Julien, The Fullerton Waterboat House
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2011/10/le-saint-julien-fullerton-waterboat.html
Friday, October 21, 2011. Le Saint Julien, The Fullerton Waterboat House. Our first Restaurant Week meal for this October 2011 edition was at Le Saint Julien. With pleasant memories of our previous lunch at Boathouse. I was eagerly anticipating an even better meal at this stalwart of the french fine dining scene. Unfortunately, we found the experience rather underwhelming. Our starter, the terrine of foie gras and chicken with medley of mushrooms and cress. Fared better. Beautifully cooked rosey pink...

Dancing elephant: Chin Lee Restaurant has Pig Trotter Jelly!
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2009/11/chin-lee-restaurant-has-pig-trotter.html
Sunday, November 29, 2009. Chin Lee Restaurant has Pig Trotter Jelly! Tucked away deep in the heartlands in a nonedescript HDB estate, Chin Lee packs in the crowds because of its good authentic Teochew cooking and down-to-earth prices. Being half-a-Teochew (but always thinking that I am a full Teochew) on my mother's side and loving Teochew-style cooking, I happily trooped down with my parents to check this place out on Saturday evening. I slurped up every last drop of that great soup. Service was very p...
Dancing elephant: Boathouse
http://emmaelephant.blogspot.com/2011/04/boathouse.html
Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Our other pick of Restaurant Week, Boathouse, turned out unexpectedly well. The restaurant was decorated in a style befitting the heritage status of the building, as if stepping into somebody's beautiful and cosy home. Whitewashed walls, wooden panelling, giant vases of fresh blooms, stacks of books, old photos. A steal of a 3 course set lunch at SGD25. Starter of grilled mackerel, sardines marinated in mustard, sweet olive tapenade, and goat cheese pudding. One restaurant that I ...
