Why Primal? | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/why-primal
One girl, many cauliflowers. Einstein once defined insanity as “doing the same thing as always and expecting different results.”. I have always dieted by traditional methods. Low-fat (or very low-fat) and high carbohydrate. I eschewed fat of any description and was ruthless at trimming fat off my meat. I wouldn’t even eat dark chicken meat as it was “so fatty.” I went the “healthy” wholegrain route and ate spelt, pearl barley, bulgur wheat and so on. Then I remembered that a friend of mine had sent me a ...

Tales from the scales #10 | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/2012/04/13/tales-from-the-scales-10
One girl, many cauliflowers. Tales from the scales #10. So, um… I’ve been a bit quiet of late, haven’t I? It turns out that I can get through the Christmas holidays and my birthday unscathed, but Easter is a different kettle of fish. Last week I gained 2lb and fell headlong into a vat of bread, pasta, chocolate and sugar. Needless to say, I was feeling absolutely dreadful by this Wednesday, so I girded my loins and started eating properly again. Last week: 17st 5. This week: 17st 4. Tales from the scales...

April | 2012 | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/2012/04
One girl, many cauliflowers. Archive April, 2012. Butternut squash and chorizo hash. A few weeks ago I surprised myself by falling headlong into a crush. A deeply passionate affair, with lots of fire and gasps of pleasure. Ahem. I discovered duck eggs. In particular, I discovered. And the next day I picked up a carton of duck eggs at the supermarket and reprised the precious night’s dinner with even better results. Duck eggs are awesome! Continue reading →. February | 2012 | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/2012/02
One girl, many cauliflowers. Archive February, 2012. Tales from the scales #4. This week: 17st 11. There may even have been a victory dance after I hopped off the scale… Sticking to my meal plan and keeping plenty of easy foods around for lunches seems to work really well for me. Such a simple idea, but if there’s good and easy food available then I am less likely to go raking through the old snack basket looking for a cereal bar or chocolate. I have also hit one of the mini goals I set for myself. Becau...

Songs for the road | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/2012/03/28/songs-for-the-road
One girl, many cauliflowers. Songs for the road. Here is my walking buddy posing in the valley behind our house. Isn’t he a cool dude? Not a morning person.). Today we indulged in a grand hobbit tradition and sang as we walked home. If anyone was in earshot… sorry. Here’s our current favourite! I’m currently on mile 27. I should probably do more than 1.4 miles a day unless I want to take a year to walk to Rivendell but I’m proud of myself for getting off my arse and walking every day! You are commenting ...

One girl, many cauliflowers. Tales from the scales #8. I have lost weight. I’ve lost a lot. Of weight. I’m still utterly amazed and very, very happy. I’ve spent the past two weeks or so lamenting my woes to poor Georgie. Well, there’s no need for any more angsting from me! Last week: 17st 10. This week: 17st 6. I’ve already got my reward picked out… I’ve been gagging for the BBC to release. Doctor Who and The Daemons. On DVD for years and I refuse to buy it until I weigh 17st 5🙂. We’ve been talkin...

Chicken, pea and pancetta ‘risotto’ | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/2012/02/16/chicken-pea-and-pancetta-risotto
One girl, many cauliflowers. Chicken, pea and pancetta ‘risotto’. Cauliflower is a wonder vegetable as far as I’m concerned. When we first started eating primally, I was astounded at how well it substituted for rice alongside curries. Okay, so it still tastes of cauliflower and you’ll never convince anyone that they’re eating actual rice, but it eats. Alongside a blisteringly hot curry! It’s a delicious mind-trick that I will happily go along with for the rest of my life. (And it is. Leave a Reply Cancel...

My Progress | The Cauliflower Capers
https://thecauliflowercapers.wordpress.com/my-progress
One girl, many cauliflowers. Okay, I’m going to be brave. Here is a picture of me at my fattest. I think I was about 21 stone in this picture, dwarfing my poor little boy. We were at a wedding and I thought that I looked pretty. Here I am in October 2011, at 20st 5lb. Trying to hide myself behind Lucas (yet again) and failing dismally. And here is how I look in February 2011 after losing 2 stone 5lb (33lb). Please excuse the dreadful face I’m pulling! You can click for a larger view, if you dare…. Build ...
