Are you going to eat that?: The glorious Ulster Fry
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2011/01/glorious-ulster-fry.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Sunday, 9 January 2011. The glorious Ulster Fry. There are many, many things to love about Northern Ireland. The stunning scenery, the friendliness of the people, the fascinating history. But for me there is one shining, glimmering star among our wee country's numerous glories - the Ulster Fry. If I believed in heaven, that is what an Ulster Fry would be. And while I may, on one occasion, have indulged in putting Vegemite on my toasted soda bread, this ...

Are you going to eat that?: Fat in France
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2010/11/fat-in-france.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Friday, 26 November 2010. What is it with the French and fat? For a nation so obsessed with fat, they are an irritatingly slim and chic lot. I mean breakfast consists of a pound of butter disguised as pastry, lunch is likely to involve several courses complete with dessert AND cheese, while duck fat at dinner is de rigeur. Or maybe that's just how I ate in France? Pass me another baguette, and don't hold the butter. Thankfully the day after that stupend...

Are you going to eat that?: The Cheat Day Files
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2011/09/cheat-day-files.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Saturday, 3 September 2011. The Cheat Day Files. Loving food and hating exercise has a tendency to ensure I am never described as willowy. 'Not quite fat' is probably more accurate. But, you know, whatever. I like to eat. So I try to eat pretty well 6 days out of 7 by eating lots of veg, beans and lean protein. But on Saturdays I eat WHATEVER I WANT! Sometimes on Cheat Day we eat out, but mostly we spend the best part of the day planning our meals, purc...

Are you going to eat that?: The bread man cometh
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2011/02/bread-man-cometh.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Monday, 14 February 2011. The bread man cometh. The longer I spent in Italy the more I wanted to stay. Amazed as I was by the milk vending machine, I am personally no fan of milk itself. I just can't drink the horrid stuff (I do, however, revere what it can be turned into i.e cheese). But if there's one food product I truly love, it is bread. No, that is not a typo. Needless to say I was in shock. I bet if you could pay less to get your milk on tap when...

Are you going to eat that?: Got Milk?
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2011/01/got-milk.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Saturday, 29 January 2011. What is it with these Europeans and their outrageous vending machines? Things that aren't even legal in Australia, you can get out of a machine here! And no, this post has nothing to do with my visit to Amsterdam. What I'm talking about here is milk. Good, old fashioned milk - the stuff that comes out of a cow. But here where I'm staying in Northern Italy it goes from the cow into a vending machine in the local cafe's car park.

Are you going to eat that?: (Less is) more sauce please
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2011/02/less-is-more-sauce-please.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Tuesday, 8 February 2011. Less is) more sauce please. I have been eating pasta every day for a week now. Add that to the cheese vending machine and I can't decide whether I am in Italy or in heaven. Eating and cooking here has been a bit of a revelation for me. We're staying with a local family near Bologna, helping out on their property and eating what they eat every day. A handful of home-grown walnuts mixed with a couple of tablespoons of fresh, loca...

Are you going to eat that?: December 2010
http://www.food.travellingcromptons.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Are you going to eat that? The world is my kitchen. Monday, 6 December 2010. How not to make shortbread. Why do I keep making mutant baked goods? It must be something about the combination of flour and fat. Just not my forte. Although this time it was the 'other bits' that got me in trouble really. But I digress. Back to the shortbread. Here's where it all went pear-shaped. Yes, once again I had cleverly decided to try my hand at baking something I had never before attempted, because it ended so well the...
