The green spot blog. 8220;But whatever you do, find the God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated passion of your life, and find your way to say it and live for it and die for it. And you will make a difference that lasts. You will not waste your life.” - John Piper. As a child, my parents never sent me to summer camp. In grade 9, I went on a school trip to Frontier Lodge, we called it The Winter Survival Trip. Right now my passion is camp. What is your "camp"? Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Wednesday, Ma...

The green spot blog. The Power of a Cabin Leader. Did you go to camp as a kid? One of my favourite memories growing up as a child was attending Columbia Bible Camp, near Chilliwack, B.C. Little did I know back then that I would end up working at Columbia in 1982 as a cabin leader and again from 1994 - 2004 as program director. (Columbia Bible Camp has since become Stillwood Camp and Conference Centre). I remember singing "Once An Austrian Went Yodelling" over and over. Which reminds me of another son...

The green spot blog. We're Looking For A Few Good Men. As of yesterday we were 100 campers ahead of last years numbers at this time. 100 campers! That's a lot of campers. Last year we had nearly 800 campers join us for summer and we're on track to pass that number this summer. I can remember being a camper many, many years ago. In fact if you scroll down our blog posts you can read about it a few blogs ago. The one thing that stands out in my mind to this day is my counselor Phil. By men, in our mind, yo...

The green spot blog. We have a lot of fun at camp and we are often pretty silly. Some highlights from Fall are - Rise Up, serving our guest groups and teaching kids new things, game nights(Ticket to Ride and Settlers are some of the favourites),our staff ride, survivor night, fires and Thanksgiving. I asked our staff to write some Haiku's about Fall, Autumn and Camp Evergreen. Let's just say we have a creative crazy staff! Please take a moment to enjoy the silliness we all enjoy on a daily basis. We all ...

The green spot blog. Highlights of this years AGM were two of our staff members sharing. Felix from Germany was quite animated as he shared about his experience this past year. Sarah shared about how Evergreen has been part of her faith walk over the last 14 years. Eight as a camper and six as a staff member. The final highlight of the day was our Cabin Fever ribbon cutting in the afternoon. All ten new cabins are being used this summer and what a blessing that is. A HUGE thank you to all who hav...Our v...

The green spot blog. Slow Down and Smell the Rose. One thing Taylor Jenkins has said to me from day one was "Slow Down and Smell the Roses." In spring, summer, and fall, we have guest group after guest group. We are running from the kitchen to activities, from activities to the kitchen, from the kitchen to cleaning. It is busy, busy, busy! But we get the amazing opportunity to slow down and smell the roses at camp. What are the roses at camp you might ask? Let me tell you! It really is so beautiful.
