Dance: Black and White. Caught in a moment. On the Pembrokeshire coast is an abandoned slate quarry where the slate cut from the cliff-side has left an exposed, almost vertical, cliff-face. I have spent many hours over several visits with my nose close up to this cliff-face, much to the bemusement of other tourists not aware of what I am doing.

Paria Plateau: The Mirage Group

Dance: Black and White. Caught in a moment. I never tire of the red rock country of Utah and Arizona. Not only do the two states host some of the best national parks of America Zion and Bryce are difficult to beat but they include the Paria Plateau region, an area of quite outstanding beauty. Within this region are Coyote Buttes and White Pockets as well as numerous canyons and back-country hiking opportunities.

Bisti Badlands: The Mirage Group

South of Farmington in New Mexico there is an area of badlands called Bisti it is a magical place if you like isolation there are no trails, no signs, no facilities, just wilderness. The area is special for the varied and numerous rock formations, mostly mushroom caps. At times the scenery can be quite monochromatic, but then you round a bend and find multicoloured hues in the hillside.

Tuscany fields: The Mirage Group

Dance: Black and White. Caught in a moment. The rolling hillsides of Tuscany provide a wonderful treasure-trove of field patterns, at any time of the year. This portfolio was made one July, when the harvest had begun, so that we found fields awaiting cutting, alongside others which had been cut and baled, whilst yet more had already been ploughed. The combination of colours, tractor patterns and crops made for some wonderful photography.

I love the wonderful colours and textures that make it hard to believe that it really is rock that one is looking at. This selection is a small sample of a much larger portfolio of images that I made and which were a full reward for several days spent wondering around in the heat of the desert.
