http://alaskan-escape.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 3, 2012. New and old experiences at home. Last week was again a busy week at home. Although summer is still here, we are fully getting ready for winter. That means making lots and lots of firewood. Every day. Well luckily Piia has already got over her childhood minitrauma about making firewood, and is really enjoying the hard work. And Julien is working like he was born with a chain saw in his hands. We are quite a good team for cutting and splitting! Watch the video for prove. The Sunday ...

Alaskan escape: January 2013
http://alaskan-escape.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 25, 2013. Meeting friends and planning future events. As most of you know probably, we are volunteering for the Yukon Quest at mile 101, a remote checkpoint with an amazing location, blocked between Rosebud summit (not as famous as Eagle summit but believe me it is as hard) and Eagle summit, I think that we can say that this checkpoint is usually pretty popular for the musher and dogs to rest and refocus. Last week we also met many of our friends. On Thursday we visited our co-worker ...

Alaskan escape: December 2012
http://alaskan-escape.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 21, 2012. Ready for Christmas and holidays. It is finally here, as Piia has been wishing and Julien has been fearing: Christmas! Which means we get a whole 2 weeks of cold, snowy winter wonderland holiday which we are starting in -42 degrees. We are intending to fill our holiday with eating, dog mushing, eating, skiing, eating, photographing, eating, resting and eating. If nothing special happens, we will be pretty much off the grid until the second week of January, so. We started the fi...

Alaskan escape: April 2012
http://alaskan-escape.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 26, 2012. Easy like an Alaskan weekend. So what's new here now? Well spring is definitely here, since it's 15 (C degrees) during days and only 32 (F degrees) at night (meaning zero celcius :). All the snow is basically gone and now we are just waiting for ground to dry a bit so we could go around and hike. On Sunday Piia managed to milk 2 and half glasses of goat milk and having just a slight cramp in her hand. Not sure if this was Brownie or. Happy sunny faces :). Alaska Range road trip.

http://alaskan-escape.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 29, 2012. Ski trip, snow cave and snow machine tour. This weekend's theme was outdoors! On Saturday we went skiing on trails nearby. We reached the so-called "upper upper crossing" of one of the many streams there are in surroundings. The weather was mild and skiing in quiet forest was perfect start for the day. This weekend's theme was outdoors! Julien had some fun with Lola the black labrador in our yard. The Saturday night was exciting! D Julien, experienced that before, was snoring be...

Alaskan escape: September 2012
http://alaskan-escape.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Road trip to Eagle summit. Here we would like to introduce you to some more fall colors of Alaska. When Julien was finally over his jet lag we headed to Eagle Summit and drove along the Steese Highway again. We took this road to Circle in spring too, so we wanted to see what autumn does to the beautiful landscape around the highway. Then finally at the Eagle summit, we had snow! We spent the night along a river and made big fire. No bears visited us, and we enjoyed some...

Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Last week was a Thanksgiving week which meant we. Had a chance again to be part of an American traditional holiday and also had some time off from work. We were invited to our coworker Mimi’s and her family’s house to spend this evening with plenty of other people we knew, and enjoy great food. Mimi had created a huge amount of delicious Thanksgiving dishes and we all brought some additional food as well. Piia and baking morning. Lots of good food. Sarka, Julien and Scott.

Escape life in New Zealand: South Island Rrrroadtrip
http://escapelife-in-nz.blogspot.com/2014/10/south-island-rrrroadtrip.html
Escape life in New Zealand. Tuesday, October 28, 2014. We drove a van that had a bed attached to it and storing space under it. The kitchen facilities (stove, containers for food, water and dishes) were at the back. We drove during the sunny and rainy days from interesting and beautiful (well sometimes weird and unnecessary) places to other ones and slept mostly in free basic campgrounds. Here are the highlights:. Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki. Just a beautiful scenery on a beautiful day. The Great Walks a...
