Wednesday, May 19, 2010. The time has come; Jake and I leave Ibarra next Monday, to fly out of Quito on Friday, May 28th. I have probably all the usual things to say: that I can't believe it, that we will miss it so much, that saying goodbye is awful, and that we are excited still for what lies ahead. Goodbye lemon trees, goodbye 40-cent red cabbage, goodbye vitamin D, goodbye girls, goodbye Patty, goodbye Juan y Esperanza. You have become so dear. Sounds kind of like Goodnight moon. Monday, April 12, 2010. Stalin and I receive our certificados at the end of the conference. I spent last week in Guayaquil. Big, sweaty, sketchy, Guayaquil. Still, I was glad to be there since the reason for my visit was to accompany a little rising star of my youth group, Stalin, to a workshop Peace Corps put on in conjunction with Fundación VIHDA. Thursday, April 29, 2010. 4 years ago today. Erin and I were wed on a rainy Saturday on Mercer Island. Today we are celebrating our "fruits and flowers" anniversary by visiting a cheese factory outside Ibarra. It also strikes me as odd that our time in the Peace Corps has been almost half our marriage. We are mindful that our relationship doesn't exist in a vacuum and are thinking of family and friends today who were supportive of us four years ago and continue to nurture us today. Friday, February 12, 2010. Tonight I accompanied my Ecuadorean counterpart, Patty, nutritionist and coordinator of the adolescent program with which I assist. We went to a pretty little school to give a talk on nutrition to a group of parents. Very important: use a wooden spoon in cooking at all times (this one got repeated a lot). Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Lots of nerves in the McCoy camp these days as Jake and I await the last handful of grad school notifications. And like high school seniors, the most common question we're hearing these days has to do with our plans for next year. Jake applied to 16 law schools. He's heard back from 11. Wednesday, January 13, 2010. One of the only (lame) photos we got before our camera died on us again. Outside the O.R.
