How the Alexander Technique can help you. The Alexander Technique was developed by FM Alexander in the 19th Century. It is now practised effectively throughout the world. The Alexander Technique allows you to become more aware of the posture, balance and co-ordination of your body. It helps you to release unnecessary tension, to recognise your own poor postural habits and to change these habits. Improvement in poor postural appearance e.g. rounded shoulders. Self help for back pain, neck/shoulder pain etc.

My Name is Teresa Carter-Johnson MSTAT. I am a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (MSTAT). I completed three years of full-time training and teach from my home in Surrenden Road, Brighton. I am also a teacher at the Brighton Alexander Technique College, where I teach students who are training to become qualified Alexander Technique Teachers. My professional background is in Human Resources, and I have held senior positions at a number of blue chip organisations.

I offer concessions to students and seniors - please ask for details. What happens in a lesson? The first lesson starts with a discussion about what brings you to the Alexander Technique and what you would like to get from it. We will then look at simple everyday activities such as sitting, standing and walking. I combine verbal instructions with gentle, non-manipulative, touch. I will give you guidelines and suggestions for applying the technique to your everyday life. There are no "exercises" to do!
