Private lessons involve the teacher guiding the pupil through simple procedures, such as getting up from and sitting in a chair, standing, and walking. The teacher may also work on the pupil on a table. The Alexander work aims to encourage release of unnecessary muscular tension. This leads to greater freedom of movement and improved functioning in everday activities. Weekly lessons are recommended.

He had discovered the Alexander Technique in his search for relief from sciatica. Jenny completed a three year training course at the Constructive Teaching Centre, at 18 Lansdowne Road, London.
