Under the Chestnut tree: RIP Buttercup

Under the Chestnut tree. All about working towards food production on a small property. Yarra ranges, Victoria. Saturday, September 24, 2011. Much loved 7 year old - plus Buttercup passed away not long ago. She had a lot of kid cuddles in her time, and probably ran many kilometers in her life trying to escape the attentions of children. She travelled many miles to move with us, and was one of the constants for the children during their big move. Chris Brock (under the Chestnut tree). Living the Good Life.

Not me; I grow Swedes, I eat Swedes and some might say that perhaps I personify the Swede : Rough around the edges. The Swede - an ugly duckling amongst root veg. It’s a vegetable that our parents’ generation are more familiar with than we are and you can still see it in a soup pack in some shops (I think). But despite them being plenti...

Under the Chestnut tree. All about working towards food production on a small property. Yarra ranges, Victoria. Sunday, December 25, 2011. Christmas lunch was a relaxing affair interrupted by a few heavy showers. We spent the day in Wandin - about 20km's away from where we live. We watched the lightening and thunder rumble over and around us and after consulting the weather radar it looked like we did get a good downpour in our valley. Beans are battered but will recover. Followed by young cabbages, cucu...

Under the Chestnut tree. All about working towards food production on a small property. Yarra ranges, Victoria. Sunday, July 15, 2012. 3 little pigs and a house of straw. After talking about pigs for a long time, we have finally made the leap in the form of 3 Wessex Saddleback piglets. The day before we made the house of straw, wire and tarpaulin and i must say it's pretty cosy. Whether it will stand up to the rigours of pigs is another matter.. Almost a house of straw - straw and metal to be exact.
