Coca-Cola Bottling | Aliceville Museum

Aliceville, AL 35442. October 24, 2013. August 3, 2014. The museum is housed in the former Aliceville Coca-Cola Bottling plant, which was in operation from 1948 to 1978. Many years ago similar small-town bottling plants were located across the country. Very few escaped the wrecking ball or scrap yard as larger and faster plants became the norm. The Coca-Cola exhibit contains the complete and intact bottling equipment just as it was installed when the building was constructed.

The American Heroes Collection honors Alabama patriots who have served in all branches of the US armed forces. The Coca-Cola Room features the complete 1948 Aliceville bottling plant. The Aliceville Collection traces the city’s history from its founding in 1902 through today.

The Aliceville Museum has grown from a single room in the Aliceville Public Library to a large facility encompassing three buildings, a courtyard, and a plaza area in downtown Aliceville. The museum has been in its current location since 1995. There are four main exhibit rooms and a large meeting space. The facility is handicap accessible. Self-guided audio tours are available. Contact the museum for information about how to donate or loan items.

Between June 2, 1943, when the first train carrying German prisoners arrived at the Frisco Railroad Depot in Aliceville, and its closing in September 1945, the Aliceville Prisoner of War camp was home to over 6,000 German prisoners of war (POWs). Many of the first arrivals were members of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s famed Afrika Corps.
