Updates from an EWB volunteer. A Pretty Typical Morning in the Current Life of A. Molaro. June 20, 2011. Quick note before we start:. Another quick note: This is going to be another three part series Morning – Work Hours -Evening. I wrote the whole thing but then realized that it was over three pages long. Too much for one blog post I would say! I’ll post these ones back to back though over a few days enjoy! How did you sleep? I ask my host mother, Martha, who is already awake; usually sweeping the yard.
That extra 50 cents… | ali in malawi
https://aliinmalawi.wordpress.com/2011/07/18/that-extra-50-cents
Updates from an EWB volunteer. That extra 50 cents…. July 18, 2011. I’m sure many of you have heard me urging you to buy fair trade products in the past. Coffee, tea, wine etc. I’ve been promoting it because it’s something I believe has tangible results. It’s something I believe is an easy thing for each person to do. It’s something I’ve researched, and from what I’ve researched about it, I agree with. Now, I’ll promote it because I’ve seen it work. They are audited yearly by the Fair Trade Labeling Orga...
Stories | ali in malawi
https://aliinmalawi.wordpress.com/stories
Updates from an EWB volunteer. The other day, myself and two other JFs, Steph and Jocelyn, took on the Lilongwe market. We had a list of things to do and the first step was taking money out of the ATM. Easier said than done. It seems these banks here don’t particularly accept international bank cards. Begrudgingly we went from bank to bank, hopelessly unable to take out money. It was hot. We were on a time budget. This was annoying. A Rasta man came up to us, mazungo mazungo! As we waited for our food to...
Water is Life | ali in malawi
https://aliinmalawi.wordpress.com/2011/07/14/water-is-life
Updates from an EWB volunteer. July 14, 2011. I wanted to give everyone who is reading this and/or commenting a great big THANK YOU! And is there is something specific you wanted me to talk about, let me know! It seems to be a common phrase in Malawi. I hear it all the time especially when I tell people what I’m doing here. Where is it that you are working? At the District office… The water office. You know it? I am, however, more familiar with the rural water supply. There are some private waterpoints t...

https://aliinmalawi.wordpress.com/2011/06/29/a-pretty-typical-work-day-in-the-life-of-a-molaro
Updates from an EWB volunteer. A Pretty Typical Work Day in the Life of A. Molaro. June 29, 2011. The district offices take up quite a bit of space. Each sector of government has its own building and the district assembly (the head honchos) have a building too. It would be the equivalent of an office building, but there are no two or more story buildings, so it’s all spread out on a large plot of land. I say hello and chat for a few minutes before I head into my office. Next I get started with my work...

Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. Two Shots →. And biscuits but when I told him that he wasn’t pleased and organized to get a truck to take me into Tamale today (even though it’s a holiday! To get some cooking supplies. During the ride I was talking to my friend Napari the driver and he asked if I was married (super common question) I told him I wasn’t because I can’t cook so I would be a bad wife. He was SHOCKED to hear that I couldn’t cook! Posted by Jennifer Nowoselski. You are com...
Planes, Trains and Automobiles | Jenn in Ghana
https://jenninghana.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/planes-trains-and-automobiles
Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I have spent the last 72 hours finding my way to Northern Ghana. I can’t believe how much has already happened and I haven’t even started work yet! Leaving Toronto, one of the group members wasn’t able to travel through the United States because she has a passport from Iran. I thought this was absolutely ridiculous but in the end she made it to Accra, Ghana before we did! And buy Milka chocolate in Frankfurt. Leave a Re...
Fish | Jenn in Ghana
https://jenninghana.wordpress.com/2011/05/23/fish
Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Bad Wife →. I know this may sound a bit crazy but I have a pretty intense fear of fish. It’s completely irrational and I have no idea where it comes from, it just exists. Somehow, I managed to avoid eating fish during all my travels but in Ghana it seems this is impossible! There is fish EVERYWHERE and I’m not talking about fish sticks or filets I’m talking about straight up fish, nothing removed, grilled on both sides!
The sky is eating the moon! | Jenn in Ghana
https://jenninghana.wordpress.com/2011/06/16/the-sky-is-eating-the-moon
Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. Average Sunday →. The sky is eating the moon! Last night I was laying in bed, peacefully finishing up some work when my sistah BURST into the room. 8211; Madame Jeneefah! The excitement in her voice startled me out of my thoughtful daze. 8211; The what? 8211; The asdfasdalkj! I pulled the mosquito net out of the way. I guess I thought if I could see her better I would be able to understand what she was so excited about. OK, now I’m interested! The wor...
Two Shots | Jenn in Ghana
https://jenninghana.wordpress.com/2011/06/09/two-shots
Where ever you go, go with all your heart -Confucius. I posted a 140 character version of this on Facebook the night that it happened but I thought I would elaborate, because it’s quite different from what I’m used to. I’m sorry I don’t have any photos to go with this post, I haven’t experienced it visually because I don’t go out alone at night. Someone is hunting, when it’s pitch black outside? What could they possibly be hunting all there is around here are cows, goats and poultry. Two more shots fired.
Shit, this is my job – Part 5 Intervention | Malawi thoughts

Ideas about a summer in Malawi. Shit, this is my job – Part 5 Intervention. On July 11, 2011. As I mentioned on my first post about work, I will use all my new understanding to test out some hypothesis to try to improve the success of CLTS. This is the stage I am at: my intervention. Disclaimers: 1. This will make a lot more sense if you read first the other posts in this series. 2 These are the plans I have right now, they are completely subject to change. How do you change behaviors anyway? | Malawi thoughts
https://vivianmau.wordpress.com/2011/07/29/how-do-you-change-behaviors-anyway
Ideas about a summer in Malawi. How do you change behaviors anyway? On July 29, 2011. I want to update you on what is happening with me related to work. Right now I am focusing on the intervention stage of my placement where my end goal is to influence households in the community to re-adopt and maintain the habit of covering toilets and washing hands after using the toilet. The essence of my work right now is behaviour change. Exercising twice a week. Once the classes were over I did not have the same f...

Ali in Wonderland (aka South Korea)
Ali in Wonderland (aka South Korea). July 23, 2010. Even though Korea has its own very strong ecomony (from electronic giants like Samsung to evil corporation Lotte which has a finger in every business pie), western influences seem to creep in everywhere. Just like the rest of world, though, these ‘western’ companies and products are nearly exclusively American – but a few curious English-isms have crept in too. Yup, insurance adverts featuring a giant pound coin and Korean voiceover. July 13, 2010.

ali in malawi | updates from an EWB volunteer
Updates from an EWB volunteer. November 22, 2011. It seems the only reason I write blogs while I’m in Canada is for some shameless self (or EWB) promotion. I don’t feel too bad about it though… hahah. EWB is doing a holiday season campaign to make some money for the organization. I have written my perspective on why I think donating to EWB is a worthwhile investment and I am writing this blog today to encourage you to check it out. ( click here. If EWB raises $20 000 by Nov. 27. From → Uncategorized.
